A Young Patriot Lineup Sweeps Saint Francis (Pa.) on Saturday

LORETTO, Pa. – The George Mason men's volleyball team improved to 13-5 (10-4 EIVA) after sweeping Saint Francis (Pa.) inside DeGol Arena.
 
Head coach Jay Hosack and his staff decided to start five freshmen on Saturday and it paid off for the sixth-year head coach.
 
"We are very proud of our young guys tonight," Hosack said. "They played loose, relaxed and it came out in their level of play. The future of Mason men's volleyball looks very bright!"
 
The young men helped Mason win their sixth match in a row. That is the Patriots' second six-game winning streak of 2021.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Five freshmen got the starting nod for the Green & Gold on Saturday.
  • Freshman Jack Bolz led Mason with 11 kills, a service ace and five total blocks
  • Freshman Sam Peters led the Patriot defense with a game-high two solo blocks and a game-high six total blocks.
  • Peters added four kills on the offensive end.
  • Junior Richie Hoff tallied nine kills, coupled with an ace and a game-high 10 digs.
  • Freshman duo Eamonn Testerman and Chey Cooper each made their first collegiate start for the Patriots.
  • Cooper earned seven kills, a service ace, two digs and three total blocks in the victory.
  • Testerman added two kills and three total blocks.
  • Freshman Omar Hoyos put on the green jersey and played libero for Mason on Saturday night, nothcing four digs.
  • Redshirt sophomore Zach Talamoa manned the Patriot offense with 26 assists.
  • Talamoa added seven digs and two total blocks on defense.

The Patriots return home for an EIVA showdown with No. 8 Penn State on Friday, April 2, inside EagleBank Arena. First serve is set for 7 p.m. ET.
