FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team surrendered an early goal and dropped its home match to Davidson, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va.
Mason (0-4-3, 0-1-3 A-10) fell behind Davidson (2-3-2, 1-1-2 A-10) in the fourth minute of play.
Wildcats junior forward Lucas Hauth scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season when he redirected a corner kick from freshman defender Trey Gardiner to put the Wildcats in front 1-0.
It was Davidson's first goal in the first half of the 2021 spring season.
The Patriots pressured in the second half, outshooting the Wildcats 12-6. Mason put six shots on frame in the second half, but Wildcats sophomore goalkeeper Giacomo Piccardo kept the net empty.
Davidson freshman midfielder Connor Smith put the game away when he scored two goals in a span of 15 minutes late in the second half.
In the 70th minute, Smith tallied his second goal of the season, with sophomore forward Justin Stone picking up the assist. Smith struck again with an unassisted goal in the 85th minute.

Jonathan Fawole each recorded two shots on goal.
For the Wildcats, Smith led all players with five shots and three shots on goal.
Mason freshman goalkeeper
Jackson Lee (0-4-3) made three saves. Piccardo (2-2-2) made eight saves to notch his first shutout with the Wildcats.
