Patriots Drop Two Against George Washington

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason softball team (8-4, 4-4) dropped its final two games of a four-game series against George Washington on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Colonials defeated the Patriots by a score of 9-0 (six innings) in game one, and finished with an 8-2 victory over Mason.
 
GAME ONE: GW 9, Mason 0
The Patriots were shut out in the first contest.
 
Mason earned two of their three hits in the second inning. Senior Haellie Gordon singled down the left field line, while sophomore Haley Taormina reached on a single in the bottom of the first.
 
The Green & Gold's last bit of offense came in the bottom of the fourth when junior Taylor Dadig singled up the middle for Mason.
 
GAME TWO: GW 8, Mason 2
Freshman Carly Cooper and Sydney Bales both earned their first collegiate hits on Sunday.
 
Sophomore Rachel Warrens singled into right field, driving in Taormina in the fourth inning.
 
Senior Marissa Butts earned an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh for the Patriots, driving in Bales. Bales' hit came in the bottom of the seventh when she tripled into right center field.
 
UP NEXT
The Patriots host a midweek doubleheader against Howard on Wednesday, March 24. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. ET.
