FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team suffered a four-set defeat to Rhode Island on Saturday at the Recreation Athletic Complex.
Mason (3-10, 3-5 A-10) evened the match at one set apiece but could not overcome large leads by Rhode Island in the final two sets. The Patriots will now look to a midweek matchup with La Salle on Wednesday, March 24 at 3 p.m. inside the RAC.
Mason was led by a pair of sophomores:
Christina Walker and
Stephanie Der. Walker tallied a team-high 11 kills at a .281 clip to go along with four blocks while Der posted 21 digs and two service aces.
The Patriots finished with a clip of .086 in the match on 38 kills and 24 attacking errors. The Rams hit at a clip of .255 with 57 kills and only 18 attacking errors.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Mason fell in four sets to Rhode Island – 24-26, 25-22, 9-25, 12-25.
- Junior setter Erin Derick registered her sixth double-double of the season with 32 assists and 14 digs against the Rams.
- Mason registered eight blocks, including four Derick and three from juniors Peyton Ehmke and Katie Parmalee.
- Mason hit -.167 and .114 in the final two sets compared to Rhode Island's mark of .267 and .533. In the fourth set, the Rams posted 16 kills with zero attacking errors.
- Rhode Island recorded 82 digs on defense while Mason finished with 68 digs.
- Junior Marlanna Bozicevich provided another all-around performance with eight kills and 14 digs. She tallied four kills and four digs in Mason's second set win, 25-22.
