Box Score CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team fell at Virginia, 3-0, on Tuesday at Klockner Stadium in Charlottesville, Va.
Virginia (1-0-0) scored all three goals in the first 34 minutes of play in the first half.
The Cavaliers took the lead in the eighth minute of play when sophomore forward Axel Gunnarsson netted his third goal of the season, scoring from 10 yards out to put Virginia in front 1-0. Cavaliers sophomore forward Kevin Ogudugu set up the goal with a long pass ahead to Gunnarsson, who was able to stay onside on the play.
The Cavaliers struck again three minutes later when Ogudugu tallied his first goal of the season to make the score 2-0.
In the 34th minute, freshman midfielder Nick Berghold scored his first goal of the season, converting with a header into the lower left side of the net to increase the lead to 3-0. Sophomore midfielder Jeremy Verley picked up the lone assist on the play with the service off a corner kick.

Ishmail Kamara led the team with five shots and two shots on goal in 89 minutes of action.

Jackson Lee made three saves, while Cavaliers redshirt freshman Alex Rando also made three stops in the match.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The Cavaliers outshot the Patriots 11-10, including a 6-3 edge in shots on goal. Virginia recorded 10 of its 11 shots and five of six shots on goal in the first half. The Cavaliers finished with seven corner kicks, while Mason had five in the match.
