FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host the Mason Invitational, welcoming Richmond and UMBC Friday and Saturday, March 19-20 at the Jim McKay Natatorium.
The Mason women's team will compete against both Richmond and UMBC, while the Mason men's team will face UMBC over the two-day meet.
Last time out, the Mason men's team finished first in eight events against Delaware, George Washington and William & Mary, while the women's team placed first in four events against George Washington, Richmond and William & Mary on Feb. 20 at the Jim McKay Natatorium.
On the men's side in the first meet of the season, Mason went Mason went one-two in the 200-yard IM with freshman
Dylan Nguyen first (1:50.83) and sophomore
Sammy Lucht second (1:52.62). Nguyen also won the 100-yard freestyle (45.59) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:51.86) as he finished first in three events in his Mason debut.
Senior
Drake Moretz set the pace in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.79), while sophomore
Jackson Knouse took second (1:42.70). Knouse won the 1650-yard freestyle (16:22.66), with freshman
Graham Boyle (16:38.85) second in the event.
Mason took three of the top four spots in the 100-yard butterfly, with senior
Andres Alarcon winning the event (48.93), freshman
Sorab Aman second (49.09) and sophomore
Luke DeVore fourth (49.27). DeVore was second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:50.76).
The combination of Nguyen, Aman, Fletcher and Rastatter won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:23.50).
In the one-meter dive, freshman
Ian Castegnaro was second (224.78) with classmate
Indigo Flynch third (189.08). In the three-meter event, Flynch placed second (227.25) and Castegnaro third (224.33).
On the women's side in the first meet of the season, the Patriots won four events.
Senior
Jacquee Clabeaux took the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.41) and
Abigail Murtaugh touched the wall first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.12).
Sophomore
Leah Riley was third in the 100-yard butterfly (57.08), while Murtaugh finished fourth (57.47).
The Patriots went two-three in the 200-yard freestyle, with junior
Laura Hodge second (1:53.72) and sophomore
Lauren Ashton third (1:56.39).
Sophomore
Megan Mastropaolo took third in the 100-yard backstroke (58.05) and was second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.66).
In the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore
Emily Lewantowicz finished fifth (24.47) and junior
Ana Kuzemka was sixth (24.80). In the 100-yard freestyle, Lewantowicz was third (53.02), sophomore
Haley Butcher fourth (53.83), junior
Ariana Lewis sixth (54.34) and Kuzemka seventh (54.58).
Senior
Marina Toone finished first in both the one-meter (293.70) and three-meter (310.58). Freshman
Hailey Fisher was second in both the one-meter (276.98) and three-meter (290.25).
The Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships will take place April 14-17 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
