Patriots Collide with Colonials on Wednesday

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team hosts George Washington in the first Atlantic 10 home game of the season on Wednesday, March 17, with the opening kick scheduled for 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium.
 
Last time out, the Patriots (0-3-1, 0-0-1 A-10) built a 2-0 lead on the road at Davidson, but settled for a 2-2 double-overtime draw against the Wildcats on Sunday at Alumni Stadium in Davidson, N.C.
 
Mason sophomore Kent Harrison scored his first two goals as a Patriot in a span of 1:21 early in the second half of play, while freshman midfielder Christopher Schray notched his first collegiate assist.
 
Harrison, who leads the team in goals (2) and points (4), was named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week.
 
Mason freshman goalkeeper Jackson Lee made a career-high six saves in the match.
 
The Patriots are 27-14-3 all-time against the Colonials.
 
In the last meeting, Mason defeated George Washington, 2-1, on Sept. 28, 2019 at GW Soccer Field.  Senior midfielder Ryan Mingachos scored in the 24th minute, while senior forward Tunde Akinlosotu scored the game-winner in the 65th minute of play.
 
The Colonials outshot the Patriots 20-5, including a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.  The two teams combined for 27 fouls (Mason 16, George Washington 11).
 
The two teams will face each other again this season on Saturday, April, 3.

SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGON
 
George Washington has a 1-1-0 overall record.  The Colonials are 1-0-0 at home and 0-1-0 on the road.
 
Last time out, the Colonials fell, 1-0, in double-overtime at UMBC on Feb. 23 in Baltimore, Md.

In the season opener, George Washington defeated Mount St. Mary's, 1-0, in double-overtime on Feb. 20 in Mount Vernon, Va.  Senior midfielder Oscar Haynes Brown scored the game-winner in the 102nd minute.  
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Justin Grady (1-1-0, 0.43 GAA) has started both games for the Colonials.

George Mason leads the all-time series against George Washington, 27-14-3.  The Patriots have faced the Colonials third-most of any opponent in program history, behind only William & Mary (47 games) and American (45 games).
 
The Patriots and Colonials each have three victories in the last six matchups, but Mason has won the last two.
 
The last time the Patriots hosted the Colonials, Mason blanked George Washington, 3-0, on Oct. 3, 2018 in the league opener.
