FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer opens Atlantic 10 play this weekend, facing Davidson on Sunday, March 14, with the opening kick scheduled for 11 a.m. at Alumni Soccer Stadium in Davidson, N.C.
 
Last time out, the Patriots (0-3-0, 0-0-0 A-10) fell to William & Mary in double overtime, 2-1, on Saturday, March 6, at George Mason Stadium.  The Tribe netted the game-winner in the final minute of the second overtime.
 
Mason freshman Ishmail Kamara scored his first career goal in the 38th minute to put the Patriots in front.  He recorded five shot attempts for the second straight game.  Kamara leads the Patriots in goals (1), points (2), shots (10) and shots on goal (4).   
 
Mason freshman goalkeeper Jackson Lee (0-3-0, 2.49) made five saves in the match.
 
The Patriots and Wildcats last met on Oct. 12, 2019.  Mason senior defender Gilian Buijk netted his first collegiate goal on a header in double overtime, scoring the golden goal in the 103rd minute to lift the Patriots to the 1-0 victory.
 
Mason outshot Davidson, 18-12, including a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal in the match.
 
The Patriots are 5-1-1 all-time against the Wildcats, including a mark of 2-0-0 at Davidson.  Saturday's match will be just the third time that the Patriots have played at Davidson.  Mason has posted two 1-0 wins in its two trips to Alumni Soccer Stadium.
 
In their first-ever trip to Davidson on Oct. 31, 2015, the Patriots blanked the Wildcats in double overtime when Henning Dirks scored the winner in the 109th minute.  Stefan Kraus made four stops in the match. 
 
On Oct. 27, 2018, the Patriots clinched a spot in the A-10 Tournament with a 1-0 victory at Davidson.  Daniel Damiani scored the lone goal of the match and goalkeeper Clark Gronek made five saves for the shutout.
 
Six of the seven all-time meetings between the two clubs have been decided by one goal or less.
 
SCOUTING DAVIDSON
 
Davidson finished the 2019 season with a 4-11-2 overall record, including a mark of 3-5-0 in Atlantic 10 play.  The Wildcats were 4-3-1 at home and 0-8-1 on the road. 
 
The Wildcats fell, 7-3, to top-seeded Rhode Island in the first round of the 2019 A-10 Tournament in Kingston, R.I.
 
Davidson is 1-2 in the 2021 spring season. 
 
Last time out, the Wildcats scored three goals in the second half to earn a 3-2 win over Wofford at Alumni Stadium.  Junior forward Lucas Hauth scored two goals, while freshman midfielder Connor Smith tallied his first collegiate goal.
 
The Wildcats attempted 16 shots, with 11 shots on frame in the match.
 
Davidson dropped its first match of the 2021 spring season, 1-0, to Liberty on Feb. 10.  The Flames scored on their lone shot on goal in the match.
 
The Wildcats fell to then-No. 3 Wake Forest, 1-0, on March 1, in Winston-Salem, N.C.  The Demon Deacons scored the game-winning in the 75th minute.
 
Hauth leads the team in goals (2) and points (4), while freshman forward Adam Luckhurst leads the club in assists (2).
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Giacomo Piccardo (1-1-0, 1.250 GAA) has played two games. Senior goalkeeper Zach Schewe (0-1-0, 1.00 GAA) has played one game.
 
CORNER KICK
 
Mason and Davidson have met once in Atlantic 10 Tournament play, with the Patriots earning a 4-2 victory on penalty kicks in the first round on Nov. 13, 2014 in Richmond, Va.
 
The game was scoreless, 0-0, after double overtime.
 
Mason goalkeeper Michael Butts allowed Davidson to score on just two of its four penalty kicks, while Jannik Eckenrode, Daniel Hoffman, Conlan Kemmerer and Timi Mulgrew converted for the Patriots.
