No. 15 Patriots Travel to Charleston (W.Va.) for the Weekend

FAIRFAX, Va. – The 15th-ranked George Mason men's volleyball team (7-5, 4-4) will travel to West Virginia to face Charleston (W.Va.) on Friday, March 12, and Saturday, March 13.
 
First serve for both dates is set for 7 p.m. ET inside the Wehrle Innovation Center.
 
Mason will look to snap a four-game losing streak this weekend. The Green & Gold remain in the NVA/AVCA's DI-II Top 15 poll (15th) and are currently third in the EIVA conference standings.
 
Senior Hayden Wagner leads the EIVA in kills per set (3.70) and junior Trevor Kennan is tied for first in the EIVA with 77 digs in just 10 matches played.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The then-14th-ranked Patriots fell to the 12th-ranked NJIT Highlanders on both Friday and Saturday. The first contest went four sets (25-21, 19-25, 23-25, 23-25) and Saturday's match went just three (23-25, 18-25, 19-25).
 
Senior Hayden Wagner led the Patriots with 29 kills on the weekend. Redshirt freshmen Merit Monogue and Eamonn Testerman and freshman Jason Ashenfelter all made their Mason debuts in Saturday's match.
 
A LOOK AT CHARLESTON (W.Va.) (4-6, 4-6)
The Golden Eagles fell in straight-sets on back-to-back nights against then-10th-ranked Penn State last weekend.
 
Outside hitter Maarten Bartles leads the Golden Eagles with 97 kills in 35 sets, while sophomore Ismael Sneed leads the EIVA in hitting percentage with 74-10-129 (.496).
 
Charleston (W.Va.) is currently one spot behind Mason in the EIVA standings (fourth) with a conference record of 4-6.
 
HISTORY vs. THE GOLDEN EAGLES
The Patriots swept Charleston (W.Va.) earlier this season, defeating the Golden Eagles in five sets (25-20, 25-15, 20-25, 22-25, 15-10) on Feb. 5 and in straight-sets (25-23, 27-25, 25-18) on Feb. 6.
 
This will be the 14th meeting between Charleston (W.Va.) and Mason. The Patriots have never lost against the Golden Eagles, owning an 13-0 all-time record against Charleston (W.Va.).
