FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team earned its second straight win on Sunday afternoon in the RAC.
The Patriots defeated George Washington in five sets – 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 20-25, 16-14 – to improve to 2-0 in conference play.
"I am so proud of how hard our team fought today," said head coach
Aylene Ilkson. "Every point and every play, they tried their absolute best. Each player stayed focused and knew what they had to do. Even when we were trailing at times, they stayed at it and dug deep. They really played for each other today and I couldn't be happier for them. GW really tested us this weekend and we certainly were exposed in some areas; but we will be back to work this week and focus on Rhode Island."
Four Patriots finished with double-digit kills in the victory:
Katelyn Clarke (16),
Yanira Lopez-Barahona (13),
Peyton Ehmke (12) and
Jewel Clark (11). Junior setter
Erin Derick dished out 47 assists and posted 12 digs to guide Mason's offense.
On defense, junior libero
Marlanna Bozicevich notched 25 digs and four assists. She recorded five digs in the fifth set as Mason held on for the victory in extra points.
