FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team swept Atlantic 10 rival George Washington on Saturday afternoon in the RAC.
The Patriots defeated the Colonials in straight sets (25-23, 25-20, 25-17) to earn their first win of the season and first A-10 win.
"It was a great day for the women in our program," said head coach Aylene Ilkson. "They have truly worked hard all week long in preparing to open conference play. We knew GW would be challenging and they all really stepped up and contributed. I think we made some great in-game adjustments that worked to our advantage. Our ability to swing smart offensively and to have our block and defense work in unit was really exciting. We definitely are going to try and take this momentum into tomorrow and not take our foot off the gas."
Mason put together one of its best all-around performances Saturday vs. GW. The Patriots hit a season-high .326 in the match behind 36 assists from setter
Erin Derick.
The Patriots also shined defensively, registering a season-high 11.5 blocks in the win.
