KINGSTON, R.I. – The George Mason women's basketball team fell to Rhode Island on Friday evening in Kingston.
The Patriots could not overcome a hot-shooting performance from the Rams, falling 63-27 inside the Ryan Center.
Rhode Island made 10 three-pointers in the first half (.455) and finished with a season-high 12 three-point field goals. Mason dropped to 1-9 when its opponent makes seven-or-more three-pointers.
The Rams were +17 on the glass (51-34) and grabbed 16 offensive boards, resulting in 12 second chance points.
Mason went 1-of-14 from behind-the-arc (.071) and shot just 20.4 percent from the field overall (11-54).
Sophomore
Vita Stam had a breakout performance for the Green & Gold, scoring a career-high 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting. She added five rebounds in the loss.
Freshman
Taylor Jameson added six points and tied her career-high six rebounds. No other Patriot scored more than two points in the ballgame.
Rhode Island made 10-of-22 three-point field goal attempts and was 42.4 percent from the floor overall in the first half. Mason mustered only two points in the second quarter (22-2) to trail 38-9 at the break.
The Patriots could not overcome a first half in which the team made 4-of-38 field goal attempts (.143). Rhode Island went on to outscore Mason 25-18 in the second half to secure the 63-27 victory.
Mason will wrap up its road trip on Sunday against UMass. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
