Mason Drops A-10 Regular Season Finale to GW

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The George Mason women's basketball team dropped its Atlantic 10 regular season finale to George Washington on Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

The Patriots suffered a 68-39 loss to the Colonials to finish Atlantic 10 play with a mark of 0-14.

Freshman Taylor Jameson led the Patriots with a team-high 11 points on 5-of-12 shooting. She also recorded three assists and three rebounds in the loss.

Sophomore Jazmyn Doster added 10 points and team highs in rebounds (8) and blocks (3). Freshman Vanessa Laumbach matched her season-high in points, finishing with seven in the ballgame.

The Patriots shot 31.9 percent from the floor (15-47) and made just two three-pointers (.133). 34 of Mason's 39 points were scored by underclassmen.

George Washington finished 38.9 percent from the field (28-72) and made nine three-point field goals (.409).

Mason committed 24 turnovers which resulted in 26 points for George Washington. Mason entered the game averaging 16.8 turnovers a game.

The Colonials jumped out to an early 20-7 lead thanks to a 14-0 run. Back-to-back baskets by Jameson and Doster cut the deficit to nine after one period of play (20-11). Mason committed six turnovers in the opening quarter, resulting in eight points for GW.

GW outscored Mason 13-4 in the second quarter to lead by 18 at the break (33-15). Jameson and Doster combined for 12 of Mason's 15 first-half points.

A Doster free throw ended a six-minute scoring drought for the Patriots to begin the third quarter (42-16). The Patriots finished the period on a 7-0 run to trail by 20 with one quarter to go (42-22).

Mason pulled within 16 with 6:25 remaining in the fourth quarter (47-31), but wouldn't get any closer. GW secured its fourth straight win by a score of 68-39.

Mason will now look ahead to the A-10 Women's Basketball Championship on March 10-14 in Richmond.
