No. 12 Patriots Drop Road Contest Against No. 10 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 12 George Mason men's volleyball team (7-3, 4-2) dropped their second-straight match to No. 10 Penn State (10-2, 7-1) in three sets (19-25, 21-25, 16-25) on Saturday night.

The loss drops the Patriots to third in the EIVA, with an overall record of 7-3 and a conference record of 4-2.

Mason hit just .250 percent in a match which the Nittany Lions controlled for the majority of the night. Penn State out-killed Mason 38-32, along with six service aces to the Patriots' two.

"We did not execute at the level needed to beat a quality team like Penn State," head coach Jay Hosack said. " That doesn't mean we won't ever be there, but it means we have a lot of work to do if we want to be a team considered amongst the best in the nation."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Senior Hayden Wagner led Mason with a team-high 10 kills and five digs, which was tied for most on the team.
Redshirt senior Jack Reese recorded a game-high four total blocks (two solo), including six kills, an assist and a dig.
Redshirt senior Luis Velez earned 27 assists on the night and tallied just his second service ace of the season.
Freshman Colin Heath tied a team-high five digs.
Redshirt freshman Chey Cooper tallied his first career kill in his Mason debut on Saturday night.

UP NEXT

The Patriots will host NJIT (7-3, 7-1) on Friday, March 5, and Saturday, March 6, inside the RAC. First serve for both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
