Patriots Open Season Thursday at George Mason Stadium

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's soccer team opens the 2020-21 season at home on Thursday, Feb. 25, as they host Georgetown.
 
Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. inside George Mason Stadium. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN+.  Mason fans can watch the Patriots on ESPN+, the home of all digital-only Atlantic 10 home events. ESPN+ has two different subscriptions. One is for $5.99 per month and the other is for $49.99 per year. Order subscription.
 
PATRIOT POINTS
  • The Patriots return 13 letterwinners from last season. That includes 67 percent of the team's goals, 58 percent of its points and 61 percent of its shots on goal in 2019.
  • Senior Kayla Hamric returns for the Green & Gold after a 2019 season where she was tied for the team lead in goals scored (3), points (9) and shots on goal (7). Hamric also recorded three assists which was second-best on the squad in 2019.  
  • Sophomore Grace Hotaling had a very impressive rookie campaign coming off the bench for Mason in 2019 scoring three goals (tied for team high), seven shots on goal (tied for team high) and seven total points (second on the team).
  • Senior goalkeeper Louisa Moser led the Patriots in the net last season, leading the squad in starts (8), GAA (1.54), saves (25), wins (2) and one of two shutouts recorded by the Patriots last season.
 
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
 
Along with the Patriots, Georgetown will also open their season on Thursday night.
 
The Hoyas were selected as the preseason favorite to win the Big East for a fifth consecutive season.
 
Hoya defender Jenna Royson was named the preseason Big East Defensive Player of the Year and was selected to the preseason All-Big East team in early February by the conference.
 
Royson started in all 21 games last season, finishing with four goals and an assist for nine total points, including two game-winning goals.
 
The Hoyas are coming off of a successful 2019 season where Georgetown posted an overall record of 13-5-3 and a 6-1-2 record in conference play. Georgetown's 2019 campaign included an eight-game winning streak, a trip to the Big East conference championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
 
The Hoyas ended their season in a 0-2 loss to West Virginia on Nov. 16, 2019 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
 
The last time these two programs met was back on Sept. 9, 2018. Mason fell to No. 8 Georgetown by a score of 1-2 at George Mason Stadium.
 
TICKET AVAILABILITY/SAFETY PROTOCOLS
 
The capacity at George Mason Stadium will be a maximum of 250 spectators. The Field House will be closed during all games, a restroom trailer will be provided outside the stadium. All fans should use the side entrance of George Mason Stadium located behind the scoreboard. Face coverings must be worn at all times and social distance seating will be enforced.
 
A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase on online or by calling the Athletic Ticket Office at 703-993-3270. Visiting teams may contact the Athletic Ticket Office about ticket availability as they will not have access to complementary tickets. All tickets are priced at $8 each. Students will be able to request a ticket online.
