Patriots Host Davidson for Senior Night Saturday

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University women's basketball team will host Davidson for Senior Night on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside EagleBank Arena.

Saturday's game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+, with commentary by Steve Kolbe. In addition, Brian McSweeney will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with pre-game coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m.
 
PATRIOT POINTS
* The Atlantic 10 Conference will adjust the dates of the 2021 Women's Basketball Championships, moving the entire women's championship a week later to March 10-14.
 
* Mason made a season-high 10 three-point field goals (.357) and shot 36.7 percent from the floor overall (18-49), but it wasn't enough as the Patriots fell to Duquesne (55-49) on Sunday. The Dukes grabbed 18 offensive rebounds which resulted in 16 points. Duquesne was +9 on the glass (43-34) and +12 in points off turnovers (18-6).
 
* Redshirt freshman Rachel Balzer recorded back-to-back games with four three-pointers against St. Bonaventure (Feb. 12) and Duquesne (Feb. 14). She scored 15 points and 14 points, respectively, to land on the A-10 weekly honor roll. Over the last six games, she is averaging 10.3 points in 32 minutes per game, and has knocked down 17 three-pointers.
 
* In A-10 games only, Balzer ranks 10th in three-point field goals made per game with 2.0. She has made 24 three-pointers in conference play and has tallied 3-or-more treys on six occasions in league games.
 
* Sophomore Vita Stam is averaging 7.0 points and 4.0 rebounds over the last three games. She's shooting 53.3 percent from the floor and is 3-of-3 from deep.
 
* Graduate student Daijah Jefferson registered her third career double-double against St. Bonaventure (Feb. 12), scoring a career-high 25 points and grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds. Her 25 points are tied for the fourth most by an A-10 player in conference play this season.
 
* Senior Marika Korpinen leads the team in scoring (9.7) and assists (2.7) while Jefferson paces the squad in rebounds (7.3). The duo has led the team in scoring in a combined 11 games, and rebounding in 13. 
 
* The Patriots are averaging 46.4 points in conference games and allowing 64.3 points. Mason is shooting 29.7 percent from the field and 27.4 percent from three-point range through the 12 games.
 
* The Patriots are first in the conference in offensive rebounds per game (13.9) and third in total rebounds per game (40.4). The Patriots have a league-best 767 total rebounds.
 
* The Patriots have three players ranking in the top-25 in rebounding in the A-10 – Jefferson (7th, 7.3), Doster (15th, 6.2) and Korpinen (24th, 5.5).
 
* Mason currently boasts a free throw percentage of .721 - good for third in the A-10. They rank third in the A-10 in FT made (202) and FT attempts (280). Korpinen is fifth in the A-10 in FT made (45) and sixth in FT attempts (59). She ranks ninth in free throw percentage (.763).
 
* Eight different Patriots have led the team in scoring this season - Korpinen (6), Jefferson (5), Balzer (3), Popovic (2), Wilson, Wakefield, Doster and Stam. Eight players are averaging at least 5.0 points per game.
 
* Mason will honor seniors Marika Korpinen and Camarie Gatling on Saturday night vs. Davidson. The duo has appeared in over 100 games for the Green & Gold. Korpinen ranks 20th all-time at Mason in three-point field goals with 78 and 22nd all-time in assists with 179.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Davidson has won the last three meetings to lead the all-time series, 5-3. Earlier this season, senior Marika Korpinen scored 10 of her career-high 21 points in the final quarter but the Patriots' comeback attempt fell short in a 61-57 loss to Davidson on Jan. 3 at Belk Arena. The home team has claimed the victory in all but one meeting in the all-time series.

SCOUTING DAVIDSON
Davidson has lost eight of its last nine entering Saturday's contest to sit at 4-8 in the A-10 and 7-11 overall. The Wildcats recently fell to George Washington (59-44) on Thursday night in Washington, D.C.
 
Chloe Welch leads the team with 16.2 points per game – good for fourth in the A-10. She is shooting 45.1 percent from the floor and 34.5 percent from deep (30-87). Suzi-Rose Deegan, the 2019-20 A-10 Rookie of the Year, is averaging 10.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest while Katie Turner paces the squad with 3.3 assists per game. The Wildcats have six players shooting above 40.0 percent from the floor.
 
Davidson is averaging 63.2 points per game, good for fourth in the league, but allowing 68.4 points per contest, which ranks last in the A-10.
