Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

FAIRFAX, Va.
– The No. 13 Mason men's volleyball team (6-1, 3-0) defeated Saint Francis (Pa.) (1-11, 0-5) in straight sets (25-7, 25-21, 25-18) on Friday night inside the RAC.

The Patriot defense proved to be too much for the Red Flash, as Mason held Saint Francis to a season-low in hitting percentage (.012) on the night. The Green & Gold forced 18 attacking errors against the Red Flash and tallied a total of seven blocks.

"I thought our blocking defense did a nice job of transitioning tonight," head coach Jay Hosack said. "We were doing well in that category. I like getting Jack Bolz in the lineup and getting him a few rounds, his blocking has improved tremendously throughout the year. It will be a dogfight tomorrow night and we look forward to fighting a good Saint Francis team."

The sweep gives Mason their fifth-straight victory, including four sweeps in that five-game span. The Patriots remain the only unbeaten team in the EIVA and stand alone at the number one spot in the conference standings.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Redshirt freshman Jack Bolz tallies team-highs in both kills (11) and total blocks (5), including a solo block.
  • Freshman Omar Hoyos added nine kills, nine digs and a service ace in the win.
  • Six of Hoyos' nine kills came in the third, and final, set to secure the straight-set victory.
  • Senior Sam Greenslade notched a season-high four service aces, six kills and a solo block.
  • Mason, finding themselves down 13-7 in the second set, used a 15-4 run to gain a 22-17 lead late in the second game. The Patriots would end up winning the set seven points later thanks to the mid-set comeback.
  • Mason held Saint Francis to a season-low in hitting percentage (.012).
  • It was a team effort for Mason as seven Patriots recorded multiple kills on the night.
