RICHMOND, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to VCU on Monday afternoon in Richmond.
The Patriots (0-5) suffered a straight-set loss to the Rams – 25-15, 25-15, 25-20.
Mason was led by its middle blockers. Sophomore
Jewel Clark finished with seven kills at a .357 clip while
Peyton Ehmke recorded seven kills and two blocks.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Rams used a pair of 6-1 scoring runs to win the opening set, 25-15. Sophomore Christina Walker posted four kills on a .429 clip in the frame.
- After falling down early in the second set, Mason pulled within two for a score of 11-9. The Rams responded with a few short scoring runs to take the frame, 25-15.
- The Patriots cut the deficit to three late in the third set after three straight points (23-20). The Rams staved off the comeback attempt to take the final set, 25-20.
- VCU outblocked Mason 14-3 and was +5 in service aces (8-3).
- Mason finished with a hitting percentage of .075. VCU hit at a clip of .293 in the match.
- Sophomore Stephanie Der recorded 15 digs while junior Marlanna Bozicevich added 12 of her own. Overall, Mason posted 49 digs compared to VCU's mark of 43.
- Katie Parmalee, Yanira Lopez-Barahona and Walker each added six kills in the loss.
UP NEXT
Mason will now look to conference play with a pair of home matches against George Washington on Saturday (Feb. 6) and Sunday (Feb. 7). First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. on both days.
