FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University women's basketball team hosts James Madison on Monday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside EagleBank Arena in Fairfax.
Monday's game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+, featuring commentary from Bill Rohland and
Steve Kolbe. In addition, Brian McSweeney will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with pre-game coverage beginning at 2:50 p.m.
PATRIOT POINTS
* Mason finished the road portion of non-conference play with an away record of 4-3, recently falling to Bucknell, 77-67, on Saturday in Lewisburg, Pa.
* Bucknell shot 51.7 percent from the floor and made 11 three-pointers (.524). The Patriots dropped to 1-3 when their opponent makes seven-or-more three-point field goals.
* Senior
Amaya Scott posted a team-high 24 points – one shy of her career high – and seven rebounds vs. the Bison. It marked her 50th career double-digit scoring performance, and seventh career 20-spot. She has scored 20+ points in three of Mason's last six games.
* Junior
Jordan Wakefield added 14 points in the loss. She scored a career-high 27 points with a personal-best six three-pointers against Norfolk State on Dec. 6.
* Sophomores
Taylor Jameson (10) and
Jayla Adams (10) were the other two Patriots to finish in double figures. Mason dropped to 6-1 when three-or-more players score 10+ points.
* Adams scored a career-high 10 points with a personal-best four made field goals. She added three assists, two rebounds and two assists in the all-around performance.
* Sophomore
Angelee Rodriguez made her Green & Gold debut against Bucknell, playing in seven minutes and grabbing three rebounds. The transfer from USF missed the first 10 games of the season due to injury.
* The Patriots are 5-0 in games decided by five points or less, and 5-1 when owning the advantage on the glass.
* Mason has made 102 trips to the free throw line over the last four games, making 74 of its attempts (.725). The Patriots rank 10th in the nation in free throws made, going 167-of-231 from the line this season (.723).
* In the A-10, Scott ranks third in scoring (16.8), seventh in rebounding (7.5) and 10th in field goal percentage (.490). She's led the team in scoring in seven games and rebounding in six.
* Wakefield ranks 13th in the A-10 in scoring (14.1) and 25th in rebounding (5.5). She leads the league in free throws made, sinking 41-of-47 attempts (.872).
* Adams has led the team in assists in nine games this season. She currently averaging 4.1 assists per game – good for fifth in the A-10.
* Junior
Tamia Lawhorne ranks 24th in the A-10 in 3-point field goal percentage (.348), averaging 1.6 three-point field goals per game. She's made 11 three-pointers in her last four appearances (.344).
* Mason's scoring attack has three players averaging double figures: Scott (16.8), Wakefield (14.1) and Lawhorne (10.1).
* Scott is 44 points away from scoring 1,000 in her career.
SERIES HISTORY
The former CAA rivals will be meeting for the 76th time in program annals. JMU leads the all-time series 55-20. The Patriots look to snap a 19-game losing streak to the Dukes and claim their first win since 2005.
SCOUTING THE DUKES
James Madison is 3-7 overall and 0-4 on the road this season. The Dukes are on a five-game losing streak entering Monday's contest. JMU recently suffered a 75-68 overtime loss to West Virginia on Dec. 12 in Harrisonburg.
Kiki Jefferson (18.2) is second in the CAA in scoring, averaging 18.2 points per game. Jamia Hazell adds 13.8 points per contest while Jaylin Carodine leads the team in rebounding (8.8).
