FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University women's basketball team returns to the hardwood Saturday against Bucknell. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Sojka Pavilion in Lewisburg, Pa.
Saturday's game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+, featuring commentary from Joe Vasile. In addition, Brian McSweeney will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with pre-game coverage beginning at 4:50 p.m.
PATRIOT POINTS
* Mason faces its final non-conference road test on Saturday against Bucknell. The Patriots are 4-2 on the road this season.
* Last time out, Mason (6-4) fell to Norfolk State, 66-59, on Dec. 6 in Fairfax. The Patriots shot a season-low 27.4 percent from the field (17-62) and only 27.6 percent beyond the arc. The Spartans outscored the Patriots 22-13 in the fourth quarter.
* Junior
Jordan Wakefield scored a career-high 27 points against Norfolk State. Her field goals were all from beyond the arc, hitting a career-high six 3-pointers (6-14). She added a career-best nine points from the foul line (9-10) for the first 20-spot of her career.
* Senior
Amaya Scott was the only other Patriot to finish in double figures, scoring 12 points to go along with six rebounds. Mason is 0-4 when two players finish in double figures. Conversely, they are 6-0 when three-or-more players score 10+ points.
* Mason defeated Florida, 75-71, on Dec. 1 at EagleBank Arena for its second-ever win over an SEC opponent, and the first one since Dec. 30, 1996. The Gators have faced four A-10 opponents this season, and Mason was the lone team to pick up a victory over UF.
* The Patriots are 5-0 in games decided by five points or less.
* Mason ranks fourth in the A-10 in rebounds per game (39.5). The Patriots are 5-1 when owning the advantage on the glass.
* Mason has made 87 trips to the free throw line over the last three games, making 63 of its attempts (.724). The Patriots rank 18th in the nation in free throws made, going 156-of-216 from the line this season (.722).
* In the A-10, Scott ranks fifth in scoring (16.1), seventh in rebounding (7.5) and 10th in field goal percentage (.485). She's led the team in scoring in six games and rebounding in five.
* Wakefield ranks 13th in the A-10 in scoring (14.1) and 19th in rebounding (5.7). She leads the league in free throws made, sinking 41-of-47 attempts (.872).
* Redshirt sophomore
Jayla Adams has led the team in assists in eight games this season. She's currently averaging 4.2 assists per game – good for fifth in the A-10.
* Junior
Tamia Lawhorne ranks 23rd in the A-10 in 3-point field goal percentage (.348), averaging 1.6 three-point field goals made per game – good for 16th in the league. She's made 11 three-pointers over the last four games (.344).
* Mason's scoring attack has three players averaging double figures: Scott (16.1), Wakefield (14.1) and Lawhorne (10.1).
* Scott is 68 points away from scoring 1,000 in her career.
SERIES HISTORY
Mason and Bucknell will meet for just the ninth time in program history. The Bison lead the all-time series, 6-2, and have won the last five matchups. Mason is looking for its first win over Bucknell since 1988, and its first road win over the Bison in program history.
Mason will face its fourth and final Patriot League opponent in non-conference play. The Patriots are 2-1 this season against the PL, picking up wins over Loyola (53-51) and Navy (69-64).
SCOUTING THE BISON
Bucknell is on a six-game winning streak, recently taking down A-10 foe St. Bonaventure, 72-60, on Dec. 6 in Olean. Four Bison finished in double figures, behind 22 points from Taylor O'Brien.
O'Brien leads the Bison in scoring, averaging 18.7 points per game on 49.2 percent shooting from the field. Cecelia Collins (11.1) and Carly Krsul (11.1) are also averaging double figures while Krsul leads the squad in rebounding (7.1).
The Bison lead the Patriot League in scoring defense (53.7) – good for 32nd in the country – and turnover margin (2.67).
