FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team returns home to host Florida on Wednesday night inside EagleBank Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Fairfax. 
 
Wednesday's game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+, featuring commentary from Bill Rohland. In addition, Brian McSweeney will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with pre-game coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m.
 
PATRIOT POINTS
* Four of the five remaining non-conference games will be played at home inside EagleBank Arena. 
 
* Mason went 2-0 at the 2021 Navy Classic, defeating Bowling Green in OT (77-75) and Navy (69-64). The Patriots improved to 4-0 in games decided by five points or less. 
 
* Senior Amaya Scott was named Co-Most Valuable Player of the Navy Classic while junior Tamia Lawhorne earned All-Classic Team honors. Scott averaged 15.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game while Lawhorne averaged 11.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest. 
 
* Four players finished in double figures in back-to-back games for the Patriots. Mason improved to 5-0 when three-or-more players score 10+ points.
  • Bowling Green: Doster (14), Scott (14), Wakefield (13) and Lawhorne (11)
  • Navy: Scott (17), Jameson (15), Lawhorne (12) and Wakefield (11)
 
* Sophomore Taylor Jameson, the team's starting point guard, is averaging 14.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists over the last three games while shooting 50.0 percent from the field. She ranks eighth in the A-10 in free throw percentage (.852), going 23-of-27 from the charity stripe.
 
* Junior Jazmyn Doster registered her fourth career double-double with a 14-point, 13-rebound outing against Bowling Green. She matched her career high in rebounds, and tied her season best in points. 
 
* Scott posted her 12th career double-double with a 17-point, 12-rebound outing vs. Navy. It marked her fifth straight game in double figures, and second double-double in the last four games.
 
* Mason got it done from the charity stripe against Navy, sinking a season-best 29 free throws on 37 attempts (.784). The Patriots sit sixth in the nation in free throws made, going 122-of-166 from the line (.735).
 
* Mason earned a thrilling 77-75 overtime victory over Bowling Green on Saturday. It marked Mason's first overtime win since Dec. 7, 2017 when the Patriots defeated LIU Brooklyn in Fairfax.
 
* In the A-10, Scott ranks seventh in scoring (15.5), eighth in rebounding (7.5) and seventh in field goal percentage (.490). She's also third in the league in offensive boards per game (3.6).
 
* Junior Jordan Wakefield ranks 16th in the A-10 in both scoring (12.4) and rebounding (5.8). She's fifth in the league in free throw percentage (.871), making 27-of-31 attempts. She averaged 12.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game at the Navy Classic. 
 
* Lawhorne ranks in the top-25 in the A-10 in both 3-point field goal percentage (10th, .393) and field goal percentage (23rd, .413). She sits third on the team in scoring, posting 9.1 points per contest. 
 
* Scott is 105 points away from scoring 1,000 in her career.
 
* Redshirt sophomore Jayla Adams has led the team in assists in five games this season. She has tied her career-high seven assists twice in 2021-22: FIU and Bowling Green.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Mason and Florida will be meeting for the second time in program history. Florida won the lone matchup on Nov. 25, 1989, defeating the Patriots 68-51. 
 
Mason is 1-8 all-time against the SEC with its lone win coming on Dec. 30, 1996 when the Patriots defeated Auburn in overtime, 58-55. 
 
SCOUTING THE GATORS
The Gators (6-2) have three players scoring in double-figures led by Lavender Briggs (12.1 ppg), followed by Jordyn Merritt (11.6 ppg) and Kiara Smith (11.3 ppg). Briggs leads the team in rebounds with 5.6 per game. Florida is on a 5-game winning streak. 
 
The Gators defeated Atlantic 10 opponents George Washington and Saint Louis at the San Juan Shootout this past weekend. Grad student Kiara Smith is a native of District Heights, Md. Smith had eight steals against GW.
 
TICKETING
Fans who bring a new, unused toy to the next two home Mason women's basketball games will receive a discounted ticket. Donations will be accepted at the box office.
