Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team ran into an overtime dilemma on Thursday night at Kaplan Arena.
Mason (3-2) fell to William and Mary, 65-54, snapping their 3-0 road game win streak.
William and Mary (2-2) made nine three-pointers (.448), including five in the first half (.357). The Tribe finished 37.7 percent from the floor overall (23-61).
Senior
Amaya Scott led the offensive effort for the Patriots with a team-high 19 points, eclipsing her season high of 16. She shot a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line, setting a new season high for made and attempted free throws. Scott led the team in rebounds, compiling 12 in the loss. This marked Scott's first double-double of the season, 11th of her career.
Junior
Tamia Lawhorne added 13 points, one point shy of tying her season high. She on 3-of-7 from three-point range (.429), setting new season highs for made and attempted three-pointers. Lawhorne shot a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line.
Mason shot 28.4 percent from the floor (19-67) and made four three-pointers (.154).
The Patriots struck first off a layup from
Taylor Jameson to start the game. Scott converted three lay-ups, accounting for half of the points scored (12). In a defensive battle, the Tribe went on a 4-0 run over 1:57 minutes (16-10). Mason was down by four to end the first period (16-12).
Mason pulled within five on three occasions in the second quarter, halting William and Mary's 9-0 run after the media timeout (23-14).
Mason made one three-pointer in the first half (.125) and shot 35.7 percent from the floor overall (10-28 FG).
The Patriots battled hard the entire fourth quarter, closing in on the Tribe. Two made free throws from Scott ties the lead, sending the game into overtime. Mason could not prevail in the extra five minutes of play as William and Mary cruised to a 65-54 victory.
Mason finishes out the month of November on the road, continuing their travels with a contest at American on Tuesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
