FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason University men's basketball forward
Josh Oduro has been named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
It marks the first time this season and second time in his career he has garnered the league's weekly accolade.
Oduro put together a tremendous opening week for the Patriots, averaging 19.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and shooting 71.4 percent (25-35) from the floor in a 3-0 start for George Mason.
In a 90-53 win vs. Morgan State Sunday, Oduro poured in a game-high 22 points on just nine shots (8-9 FG, 3-3 3pt FG) while notching six rebounds and a season-best three blocks. It was his second-straight 20+ point night, as Oduro notched 20 points (9-14 FG), eight rebounds and two steals in Friday's 87-66 win over Penn. The Preseason All-A-10 Third Team selection opened the season with a 16-point effort (8-12 FG) to go along with two blocks and two assists in Tuesday's 74-52 win over Stony Brook.
Oduro was the leading scorer in each of the three games Mason played this week. On the year, the Gainesville, Va., product ranks third in the A-10 in scoring (19.3 ppg). He also leads the league and is 44th in the country in field goal percentage (.714). Oduro's 2.0 blocks per game also ranks in the top-75 nationally.
He shares the A-10 weekly award with Taylor Funk of Saint Joseph's.
Oduro and the Patriots return to action Wednesday with a marquee road matchup at #20 Maryland. The game will be broadcast nationally on Big Ten Network.
