FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team concluded its 2021 season on Saturday night at the Recreation Athletic Complex in Fairfax, Va.
The Patriots were swept by in-state rival VCU. Mason finishes the season with an overall record of 5-22 and mark of 3-13 in the Atlantic 10.
In her final match in the Green & Gold, senior
Erin Derick dished out 25 assists to go along with five digs. She finishes her career with 1,939 assists, 556 digs and 26 double-doubles.
Senior
Marlanna Bozicevich posted nine digs in the match to end her career one dig shy of 700. Senior
Katie Parmalee recorded five kills (.500) and two blocks. She led the Patriots in blocks this season (67) and ranked third in kills (197).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Mason was led by freshmen Ewelina Gacek and Olyvia Kennedy on offense. The duo combined for 19 kills to go along with 10 digs.
- The first set saw 11 ties and four lead changes. Mason was in front 18-16 before VCU outscored them 9-4 down the stretch (25-22).
- VCU hit a set-high .371 to pull away with the 25-17 second-set victory. The Rams put down 17 kills and held Mason to just eight kills in the frame.
- Mason pulled within one in the third set (16-15) before VCU went on a late run to take the stanza, 25-17.
- VCU hit .337 in the match and held Mason to a clip of .169. The Rams also held the advantage in service aces (9-3) and blocks (7-4).
