FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team welcomes No. 24 Virginia Tech to EagleBank Arena on Sunday for its home opener. Tip-off is scheduled for noon in Fairfax.

Sunday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+, featuring commentary from Steve Kolbe and Bill Rohland. In addition, Brian McSweeney will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with pre-game coverage beginning at 11:50 a.m.
 
PATRIOT POINTS
* Mason opens the home portion of its schedule Sunday against No. 24 Virginia Tech. Tip-off is scheduled for noon at EagleBank Arena. This is Mason's first meeting with a ranked opponent since 2017-18. The Patriots fell to then-No. 24 Michigan 75-61 on Nov. 10, 2017 in Ann Arbor.
 
* Mason improved to 2-0 with a down-to-the-wire victory against Loyola (Md.) on Friday in Baltimore. After leading by as many as 10 (44-34), the Patriots staved off a late comeback by the Greyhounds to secure their second straight win, 53-51.
 
* Mason gave up a 12-0 run in the fourth quarter and trailed by four with 2:18 remaining (51-47) before finishing the contest on a 6-0 run. The final stretch was highlighted by four points from Scott and the game-winner putback by Doster.
 
* Junior Jazmyn Doster recorded her third career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds against the Greyhounds. She pulled down her sixth offensive board with five seconds remaining to score the game-winning putback.
 
* Junior Jordan Wakefield has notched back-to-back outings in double figures, including a career-high 17 points vs. FIU. She added 13 points, including two treys, against Loyola.
 
* Senior Amaya Scott has started her Patriot career with a pair of strong performances. She tabbed 16 points (8-10 FG) vs. FIU and nearly notched a double-double vs. Loyola (14p/9r). She's 199 points away from 1,000 in her career.
 
* Mason was +11 on the glass (46-35) and pulled down 19 offensive rebounds. The Patriots are +6.00 in rebounding margin –good for sixth in the A-10 – and averaging 14.0 offensive boards per game.
 
* Mason is 8-2 in its last 10 home openers. Since joining the A-10 in 2013-14, Mason is 63-51 at EagleBank Arena. Overall, Mason boasts a 231-183 record at home.
 
* Scott and Wakefield are tied for 12th in the A-10 in scoring (15.0). In addition, Scott ranks 13th in rebounding (7.5) while Wakefield leads the league in FTs made (11-for-11).
 
* Redshirt sophomore Jayla Adams leads the team in assists (5.5) – good for third in the A-10. She tied her career high in assists (7) vs. FIU.
 
* The Patriots are 2-0 for the first time since the 2018-19 season after earning back-to-back two-point wins.
 
* Mason won back-to-back away games for the first time since the 2019-20 season when the Patriots defeated College of Charleston (Nov. 6) and Penn State (Nov. 14) on the road. Mason will play seven road games in the month of November.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Virginia Tech leads the all-time series, 8-3. The Patriots have won just one of the previous six meetings, coming on Nov. 14, 2014 in Fairfax, Va.

In the last matchup between the two teams, Virginia Tech defeated Mason 77-58 on Nov. 10, 2019 in Fairfax. Junior Tamia Lawhorne scored eight points while junior Jazmyn Doster grabbed five boards in the loss.

Mason is 6-25 all-time against ACC opponents.
 
SCOUTING THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech enters the season ranked No. 24 in the AP Poll. The Hokies have picked up wins against A-10 opponents Davidson (76-57) and George Washington (77-38) to start the season.

Liz Kitley, a Woodon Award Top 50 Watch List athlete, leads the Hokies with 20.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 62.5 percent from the floor. She's coming off a 34-point performance on 17-of-21 shooting against the Colonials.

Tech was picked to finish fourth in the ACC Preseason Poll for its highest predicted finish since 2004.

Mason finishes out the month of November on the road, starting with a contest at Charleston Southern on Tuesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Charleston, S.C.
