KINGSTON, R.I. — The George Mason women's volleyball team rallied in the third set, but came up short against Rhode Island on Friday night in Kingston, R.I.
Mason suffered a four-set loss to Rhode Island – 22-25, 16-25, 25-23, 17-25.
Seniors
Katie Parmalee (14) and
Peyton Ehmke (10) combined for 24 kills to lead the Patriot offense.
Freshman
Olyvia Kennedy and junior
Yanira Lopez-Barahona added seven kills apiece while senior setter
Erin Derick dished out 32 assists and posted eight digs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Mason hit .200 in the match (47-20-135). Rhode Island finished with an efficient clip of .348 (63-16-135).
- With the first set tied 18-18, Rhode Island scored three straight points to take the lead for the remainder of the set, 25-22.
- Rhode Island jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the second stanza. The deficit proved too large to overcome for the Patriots as they dropped the set, 25-16.
- Down 20-17 in the third set, Mason rattled off an 8-2 scoring run to claim the frame 25-23. The Patriots tallied 16 kills and only two attacking errors on 35 attempts (.400).
- Rhode Island finished the fourth set on a 6-1 run to seal the victory (25-17).
- The Patriots failed to register a block in the match. On the other side of the net, the Rams recorded eight stuffs to contain Mason's attack.
