Patriots Battle Bonnies In Atlantic 10 Match Wednesday

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer concludes its three-match homestand, returning to Atlantic 10 Conference play against St. Bonaventure on Wednesday, with the opening kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va.
 
Last time out, the Patriots (2-7-1, 0-2-0 A-10) defeated Radford, 3-2, in their final non-conference match of the season on Saturday at George Mason Stadium.
 
Graduate student forward Miles Montgomery scored the eventual game-winner on a penalty kick in the 83rd minute of play.  It was his first goal as a Patriot.
 
Sophomore midfielder Louis Lehr and freshman forward Balint Kocso also found the back of the net for the Patriots against the Highlanders.
 
Mason outshot Radford, 17-8, including a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal.
 
Lehr leads the team in goals (3), points (6), shots (19) and shots on goal (9).  Kocso is second on the club in goals (2) and shots (9) and is tied for second in points (4) and shots on goal (5).  Montgomery is tied for third on the team in goals (1), and is tied for second in points (4) and shots on goal (5).
 
Freshmen midfielder Linus Dahl paces the Patriots in assists (2) and is fourth on the team in shots (7) and shots on goal (4).
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Jackson Lee (2-7-1, 0-2-0 A-10, 1.83 GAA, 38 SV, 886 MIN) has started all 10 matches for Mason, while sophomore goalkeeper William Schutze (0-0-0, 0.00 GAA, 13 MIN) has made one appearance.
 
The Patriots and Bonnies have met only three times, with St. Bonaventure holding a 2-1-0 advantage in the all-time series. 
 
Wednesday's match will be the first meeting between the two schools at George Mason Stadium.
 
In the last meeting between the two teams, St. Bonaventure defeated Mason, 3-1, at the Marra Athletic Complex in Olean, N.Y.  Defender Pablo Pertusa Martinez scored the lone goal for the Patriots.  The Bonnies scored a pair of goals in a span of two minutes in the second half (71st and 73rd) to break a 1-1 tie.    
 
ABOUT THE PATRIOTS
 
The Patriots have 12 returners and 19 newcomers on the roster under second-year head coach Elmar Bolowich.
 
Returning for the Patriots are senior defender Jakob Rylander, along with junior forward Kent Harrison and defender Jonathan Fawole.  Mason has nine sophomores on the roster with goalkeeper Jackson Lee, defender Noah McGrath, midfielders Daniel Chica, Evan Pedraza, Christopher Schray and Henry Wachsman, and forwards Nicolas Alt, Ishmail Kamara and Louis Lehr.
 
The newcomers include 14 freshmen.  Forwards Balint Kocso, Ryan Mahon and Darri Palsson, and midfielders Jose Alvarado, Luciano Covella, Linus Dahl and Michael Medina.
 
Rookie defenders Jaden Berman, Valentin Brandis, Marcel Cole, Ahmed Mohamed and Josh Morrobel will join the back line in front of freshmen goalkeepers Matthew Bauer and Jake Lee.  
 
The Patriots added graduate student defender Kennedy Davis and forward Miles Montgomery, in addition to junior midfielder Cameron Revels, sophomore goalkeeper William Schutze and sophomore midfielder Mike Oropeza.
 
Mason played two games in August, seven games in September, and will play seven matches in October. 
 
The eight-game Atlantic 10 schedule includes road contests against Saint Joseph's (Sept. 17), Saint Louis (Sept. 25), Fordham (Oct. 9) and George Washington (Oct. 20).  The Patriots will host St. Bonaventure (Oct. 6), VCU (Oct. 16), Davidson (Oct. 23) and La Salle (Oct. 30) in A-10 play.
 
Admission is free for all Patriots' men's soccer home games played at George Mason Stadium.
 
SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE
 
The Bonnies have an overall record of 1-6-1, including a mark of 1-1-0 against Atlantic 10 Conference opponents.  St. Bonaventure is 1-1-1 at home and 0-5-0 on the road.
 
St. Bonaventure's first six games of the season were each decided by one goal or less, but the Bonnies have dropped each of their last two matches by a 4-0 final.
 
The Bonnies fell, 4-0, at No. 4 West Virginia on Sept. 25 at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown, W.Va.  The Mountaineers outshot the Bonnies, 20-5, including a 10-2 margin in shots on goal.
 
Last time out, St. Bonaventure was blanked, 4-0, on the road at Rhode Island on Saturday at the URI Soccer Complex in Kingston, R.I.
 
The Rams outshot the Bonnies 16-6, including a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal.  Rhode Island had seven corner kicks, while St. Bonaventure was limited to three corner kicks in the match.
 
The Bonnies defeated Davidson, 1-0, on Sept. 18 at Marra Athletics Field Complex in Olean, N.Y.
 
Junior forward Joshua Pulla leads the club in goals (4), points (9) and shots (18), and is tied for first in shots on goal (10).  Freshman forward Matthew Wrobel is second on the team in goals (3), points (7), shots (16) and tied for first in shots on goal (10).
 
Graduate student midfielder Francesco Caorsi paces the Bonnies in assists (3) and is third in goals (1), points (5), shots (8) and shots on goal (5).
 
Graduate student goalkeeper Trevor Wilson (1-3-0, 2.50 GAA, 20 SV, 360 MIN) and junior goalkeeper Justyn Sandhu (0-3-1, 2.37 GAA, 16 SV, 380 MIN) have each played in four matches this season.
 
CORNER KICK
 
The Patriots and Bonnies have met just three times, with all three games played in Olean, N.Y.
 
Mason posted a 2-1 win on Nov. 10, 2013 in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.  St. Bonaventure has won the last two meetings, with a 1-0 victory on Oct. 17, 2017 and a 3-1 triumph on Oct. 19, 2019.
