Patriots Drop Season Finale to La Salle

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team played its final match of the season, falling to La Salle, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va.
 
Mason seniors Jonathan Fawole, Miles Montgomery and Jakob Rylander were recognized prior to the match.
 
Mason (2-13-1, 0-8-0 A-10) fell behind La Salle (6-10-1, 2-6-0 A-10) early in the first half.
 
Sophomore midfielder Scott Beeks chipped a shot around Mason sophomore goalkeeper Jackson Lee for his first goal of the season to put the Explorers in front 1-0.
 
Lee tied his career high with nine saves in the match.
 
La Salle doubled the lead in the 20th minute when sophomore forward Junior Nare scored on a rebound, netting his sixth goal of the season to make the score 2-0.
 
In the 33rd minute, Mason sophomore forward Ishmail Kamara netted his second goal of the season when he blasted a shot into the lower right corner to make it a one-goal game.
 
La Salle added two goals in the second half.
 
Senior forward Nigel Buckley scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 60th minute to expand the advantage to 3-1.
 
In the 75th minute, Explorers junior defender Franc Gamiz Quer converted a header from just outside the six for his second goal of the season to make it 4-1.
 
Lee (2-13-1, 0-8-0 A-10) made nine saves, while La Salle senior goalkeeper Britt Werner (2-0-0) made two saves in the match to earn the win.
 
HOW THEY SCORED
 
11' | Beeks scored into the lower right from 10 yards out.
20' | Nare scored on a rebound into the lower left from eight yards out.
33' | Kamara scored from 12 yards out into the lower right corner.
60' | Buckley scored from 20 yards out into the upper-middle of the net.
75' | Quer converted with a header into the left side of the net from seven yards out.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
 
The Explorers outshot the Patriots, 18-9, including a 13-3 advantage in shots on goal.  La Salle finished with four corner kicks, while Mason had three corner kicks in the match.

Buckley led all players with seven shots and five shots on goal.
 
Sophomore midfielder Daniel Chica, freshman forward Balint Kocso and Kamara each recorded one shot on goal for the Patriots.
