FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team dropped its final match of the weekend to Saint Louis on Sunday afternoon at the Recreation Athletic Complex.
Saint Louis used a strong offensive showing to take down Mason in four sets. The Billikens hit .336 in the match, and had four players finish with double-digit kills.
The Patriots were led by senior middle blocker
Peyton Ehmke who finished with a team-high 11 kills at a .308 hitting percentage.
On defense, senior
Marlanna Bozicevich (15) and
Erin Derick (16) combined for 31 digs. Derick added her 10th double-double of the season with 41 assists.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Mason struggled offensively, hitting just .107. Ehmke was the lone Patriot hitter to hit above .100 in the match.
- The Billikens hit .500 in the opening set with 15 kills and only one attacking error on 28 attempts. Saint Louis used a 9-1 scoring run to take the stanza, 25-13.
- Mason led 11-10 in the second set before Saint Louis outscored the Patriots 15-5 for the remainder of the frame (25-16).
- Ehmke came alive for the Patriots in the third set, tallying seven kills on 10 attempts (.700). With freshman Olyvia Kennedy behind the service line, Mason scored five straight points to lead 19-13. The Patriots fought off the Billiken comeback to take the set, 25-19.
- Saint Louis jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the fourth set. The deficit proved too large to overcome as Mason dropped the final frame, 25-15.
