Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |
FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team earned its second straight victory on Saturday night at the Recreation Athletic Complex in Fairfax, Va.

Mason swept Rhode Island to improve to 3-7 in the Atlantic 10. The Patriots have won three of their last four matches.

"Tonight was such an amazing battle for our team," said head coach Aylene Ilkson. "To come back from down 23-18 in the third set and win in extra points shows the grit of our women. The offense was really clicking tonight and everyone played exceptionally smart throughout the whole match. Our defense, led by Marlanna Bozicevich, was stellar. She bailed us out more times than I can count. This whole week in practice our team has really been grinding out long rallies and it showed tonight. I couldn't be prouder of each member of our program."

Senior libero Marlanna Boziceivch shined for the Patriots on defense. She recorded a season-high 26 digs to go along with a .957 reception percentage. Her 26 digs marked the most by an Atlantic 10 student-athlete in a three-set match this season.

Senior setter Erin Derick guided Mason to a season-best hitting percentage of .309. The Patriots posted 51 kills and only 13 attacking errors on 123 attempts. Derick nearly registered a double-double with 41 assists and nine digs in the victory.

A trio of Patriots finished with double-digit kills in the match: Ewelina Gacek (13), Olyvia Kennedy (11) and Peyton Ehmke (10). Gacek had only one attacking error on 32 attempts to hit .375 while Kennedy finished at a clip of .360.
