FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team earned its second straight victory on Saturday night at the Recreation Athletic Complex in Fairfax, Va.
Mason swept Rhode Island to improve to 3-7 in the Atlantic 10. The Patriots have won three of their last four matches.
"Tonight was such an amazing battle for our team," said head coach
Aylene Ilkson. "To come back from down 23-18 in the third set and win in extra points shows the grit of our women. The offense was really clicking tonight and everyone played exceptionally smart throughout the whole match. Our defense, led by
Marlanna Bozicevich, was stellar. She bailed us out more times than I can count. This whole week in practice our team has really been grinding out long rallies and it showed tonight. I couldn't be prouder of each member of our program."
Senior libero Marlanna Boziceivch shined for the Patriots on defense. She recorded a season-high 26 digs to go along with a .957 reception percentage. Her 26 digs marked the most by an Atlantic 10 student-athlete in a three-set match this season.

Erin Derick guided Mason to a season-best hitting percentage of .309. The Patriots posted 51 kills and only 13 attacking errors on 123 attempts. Derick nearly registered a double-double with 41 assists and nine digs in the victory.
A trio of Patriots finished with double-digit kills in the match:
Ewelina Gacek (13),
Olyvia Kennedy (11) and
Peyton Ehmke (10). Gacek had only one attacking error on 32 attempts to hit .375 while Kennedy finished at a clip of .360.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Mason dominated the first set, 25-16. The Patriots hit a set-high .379 behind 14 kills and only three attacking errors on 29 attempts. Kennedy registered five of her 11 kills in the first frame (.625).
- In a back-and-forth second set, Mason outscored Rhode Island 5-2 down the stretch to take the stanza, 25-23. Ehmke tallied a pair of kills during the run.
- Mason trailed by five late in the third and final set (23-18). Gacek then propelled Mason on a 5-0 scoring run to even the frame, 23-23. The Patriots then outscored the Rams 5-2 to take the set in extra points, 28-26.
- Freshman BrookeLynn Sapp provided another efficient showing for the Patriots, tallying eight kills at a .294 clip. She notched four kills in Mason's third-set comeback win.
- The Patriots outblocked the Rams seven to six. Senior Katie Parmalee once again led the blocking front with four stuffs in the win.
