WASHINGTON, D.C. – The George Mason men's soccer team dropped its final road match of the season at George Washington, 2-1, in overtime on Wednesday afternoon at the GW Soccer Field in Washington, D.C.
Mason (2-11-1, 0-6-0 A-10) and George Washington (4-9-2, 2-3-1 A-10) remained scoreless after the first half.
The Patriots pressured early in the second half, with sophomore midfielder
Daniel Chica sending a shot off the crossbar in the 55th minute.
Just minutes later, George Washington took the lead.
Sophomore midfielder Demi Amigun scored his first goal of the season from eight yards out to put the Colonials in front, 1-0.
Senior midfielder Alhaji Turey set up the play when he sent a cross into the box, and sophomore midfielder Tim Neumann also picked up an assist.
In the 82nd minute, Mason sophomore forward
Ishmail Kamara scored the equalizer from eight yards out off a pass from freshman forward
Darri Palsson, who recorded his second assist of the season.
Late in the first overtime, Mason freshman goalkeeper
William Schutze, who entered the game in the 70th minute, fouled George Washington graduate student forward Oscar Haynes-Brown in the box.
Haynes-Brown netted his team-leading fifth goal of the season on the penalty kick to vault the Colonials to a 2-1 victory.
Mason sophomore goalkeeper
Jackson Lee (2-10-1, 0-5-0 A-10) made four saves in 69 minutes of action, while Schutze (0-1-0, 0-1-0 A-10) also made four saves in 29 minutes. George Washington junior goalkeeper Justin Grady (3-7-2) made three saves in the match.
