FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team fell to VCU in overtime, 1-0, on Saturday night at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va.
Mason (2-10-1, 0-5-0 A-10) outshot VCU (8-4-1, 4-2-0 A-10) 6-5 in the first half of play and the game was scoreless at the break.
The Rams applied the pressure in the second half, recording six of their 10 shots on goal in the match.
In overtime, the Patriots committed a foul in the box in the 97th minute. VCU senior defender Simon Fitch then scored the game-winner on the penalty kick for the 1-0 final.
Mason sophomore goalkeeper
Jackson Lee (2-10-1, 0-5-0 A-10) made a career-high nine saves, while VCU freshman goalkeeper John Ermini (3-1-0) made two saves in the match.
Lee's previous career-high for saves in a game was seven in a 2-2 double-overtime draw at Davidson on March 14, 2021.
