FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team used a balanced scoring to attack to power past rival George Washington on Friday night at the RAC.
The Patriots used an all-around performance to defeat the Colonials in four sets. The win marks Mason's first conference victory of the season.
"Tonight was such a hard fought battle for our team," said head coach Aylene Ilkson. "The freshmen trio of Olyvia, Ewelina and BrookeLynn absolutely stepped up to get the win for their seniors. I think the team fought hard each point in each set, and it all finally came together. There is a ton of work to do and we need to maintain consistency, but I'm happy for our women and the hard work they put in tonight."
Five Patriots finished with double-digit kills:

Olyvia Kennedy (12).
Gacek posted a career-high 14 kills with only one attacking error on 36 attempts for an efficient clip of .361. She notched her second career double-double with 10 digs.
Setters
Grace Kristofic and
Erin Derick guided Mason's offense, each registering double-doubles in the victory. Kristofic posted 27 assists and 10 digs while Derick tallied 24 assists and 11 digs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Patriots registered a season-high 66 digs. Senior Marlanna Bozicevich led Mason's defense with 16 digs to go along with five assists and three service aces.
- Mason tallied its second-most kills (64) and assists (57) this season. The Patriots finished with a hitting percentage of .261 compared to GW's mark of .236.
- Mason held a 19-13 advantage in the first set after a pair of 3-0 scoring runs. The Patriots fought off a late 8-1 run by the Colonials to take the first frame, 25-21.
- The Patriots dominated the second stanza for a score of 25-17, hitting .382 with 17 kills and only four attacking errors.
- Mason struggled offensively in the third set, hitting a set-low .132. The Colonials outscored the Patriots 9-2 down the stretch to win the frame 25-16.
- With a 2-1 lead in the match, Mason put away its rival with a 25-22 fourth-set win. Parmalee tallied six kills on eight attempts in the frame (.625) while Sapp added five kills on 12 attempts (.333).
- Sapp set a career-best in kills (12) against the Colonials. She finished with a hitting percentage of .265.
- Parmalee hit at an impressive .417 clip with 14 kills and just two attacking errors on 24 attempts.
