FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team is back home for Alumni Weekend in an Atlantic 10 Conference match against VCU on Saturday, Oct. 16, with the opening kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va.
Last time out, the Patriots (2-9-1, 0-4-0 A-10) fell on the road to Fordham, 2-1, on Saturday at Jack Coffey Field in Bronx, N.Y.
With the Rams leading by two, Mason freshman forward
Balint Kocso converted with a header from 15 yards out in the 70th minute for his third goal of the season. Freshman midfielder
Jose Alvarado recorded his first collegiate assist on the play.
Sophomore midfielder
Louis Lehr leads the team in goals (4), points (8), shots (23) and shots on goal (11). Kocso is second on the club in goals (3), points (6), shots (18) and shots on goal (8).
Graduate student forward
Miles Montgomery and freshman midfielder
Linus Dahl are tied for the team lead in assists (3). Montgomery is second on the club in points (5), and is third in goals (1), shots (11) and shots on goal (6).

The Patriots are set to face one of their most-common opponents on Mason Soccer Alumni Weekend. The Patriots are 10-16-11 in 37 all-time meetings against in-state rival VCU, including a mark of 3-9-5 against the Rams in games played in Fairfax.

VCU enters the match tied for second in the Atlantic 10 Conference with Rhode Island, Fordham and Saint Joseph's with nine points. Saint Louis leads the A-10 with 15 points.
In the last meeting between the two teams, VCU defeated Mason, 2-0, in the final regular season game of the spring season on April 10, 2021.
The match remained scoreless until the final eight minutes of play in the second half, when the Rams tallied twice in a span of 1:41 for the victory. Mason midfielder

The Patriots outshot the Rams, 10-9, while VCU finished with a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. VCU had seven corner kicks and Mason had two corner kicks in the match.

The eight-game Atlantic 10 schedule includes road contests against Saint Joseph's (Sept. 17), Saint Louis (Sept. 25), Fordham (Oct. 9) and George Washington (Oct. 20). The Patriots will host St. Bonaventure (Oct. 6), VCU (Oct. 16), Davidson (Oct. 23) and La Salle (Oct. 30) in A-10 play.
Admission is free for all Patriots' men's soccer home games played at George Mason Stadium.
SCOUTING VCU
The Rams have an overall record of 7-4-1, including a mark of 3-2-0 against Atlantic 10 Conference opponents. VCU is 3-1-0 at home and 4-3-1 on the road.
Last time out, VCU fell to No. 14 Saint Louis, 4-1, on Saturday at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Va. Sophomore midfielder Celio Pompeu scored the lone goal of the match for the Rams.
The Billikens outshot the Rams, 13-12, including a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Freshman midfielder Damian Gallegos and Pompeu are tied for the team lead in goals (4). Pompeu leads the club in assists (7), points (15), shots (29) and shots on goal (11). Gallegos is second in assists (3) and points (11).
Three goalkeepers have played for the Rams this season.
Senior Mario Sequeira (3-2-1, 0.80 GAA, 46 SV, 559 MIN) has played seven games, freshman John Ermini (2-1-0, 0.96 GAA, 11 SV, 280 MIN) has played four games and freshman Cory Taylor (2-1-0, 1.87 GAA, 9 SV, 288 MIN) had played in three games.
