Patriots Continue Homestand Against Radford on Saturday Afternoon

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer continues its three-match homestand against Radford on Saturday, with the opening kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m. at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va.
 
Last time out, the Patriots (1-7-1, 0-2-0 A-10) fell to American, 1-0, on Tuesday at George Mason Stadium. 
 
Mason sophomore midfielder Louis Lehr leads the team in goals (2), points (4), shots (17) and shots on goal (8).  Senior defender Jakob Rylander and freshman forward Balint Kocso have each scored one goal for the Patriots.  Kocso is second on the club in shots (8) and shots on goal (4).
 
Graduate student forward Miles Montgomery, and freshmen midfielders Luciano Covella and Linus Dahl have each picked up an assist this season.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Jackson Lee (1-7-1, 0-2-0 A-10, 1.81 GAA, 36 SV, 796 MIN) has started all nine matches for Mason, while sophomore goalkeeper William Schutze (0-0-0, 0.00 GAA, 13 minutes) has made one appearance.
 
The Patriots and Highlanders have met six times, with Mason holding a 5-1-0 advantage in the all-time series.  Saturday's match will be the first meeting between the two schools in 17 years. 
 
In the last meeting between the two teams, the Patriots fell to Radford, 2-1, on Oct. 17, 2004 at George Mason Stadium.  The Highlanders netted the game-winner in the 63rd minute of play.  Senior midfielder Matt Mendy scored the lone goal of the match for the Patriots.  Mason outshot Radford 18-14, while both clubs registered eight shots on goal in the match.
 
ABOUT THE PATRIOTS
 
The Patriots have 12 returners and 19 newcomers on the roster under second-year head coach Elmar Bolowich.
 
Returning for the Patriots are senior defender Jakob Rylander, along with junior forward Kent Harrison and defender Jonathan Fawole.  Mason has nine sophomores on the roster with goalkeeper Jackson Lee, defender Noah McGrath, midfielders Daniel Chica, Evan Pedraza, Christopher Schray and Henry Wachsman, and forwards Nicolas Alt, Ishmail Kamara and Louis Lehr.
 
The newcomers include 14 freshmen.  Forwards Balint Kocso, Ryan Mahon and Darri Palsson, and midfielders Jose Alvarado, Luciano Covella, Linus Dahl and Michael Medina.
 
Rookie defenders Jaden Berman, Valentin Brandis, Marcel Cole, Ahmed Mohamed and Josh Morrobel will join the back line in front of freshmen goalkeepers Matthew Bauer and Jake Lee.  
 
The Patriots added graduate student defender Kennedy Davis and forward Miles Montgomery, in addition to junior midfielder Cameron Revels, sophomore goalkeeper William Schutze and sophomore midfielder Mike Oropeza.
 
Mason played two games in August, seven games in September, and will play seven matches in October. 
 
The eight-game Atlantic 10 schedule includes road contests against Saint Joseph's (Sept. 17), Saint Louis (Sept. 25), Fordham (Oct. 9) and George Washington (Oct. 20).  The Patriots will host St. Bonaventure (Oct. 6), VCU (Oct. 16), Davidson (Oct. 23) and La Salle (Oct. 30) in A-10 play.
 
Admission is free for all Patriots' men's soccer home games played at George Mason Stadium.
 
SCOUTING RADFORD
 
The Highlanders have an overall record of 2-5-0, including a mark of 0-1-0 against Big South Conference opponents.  Radford is 1-1-0 at home and 1-4-0 on the road.
 
Last time out, Radford led 1-0 after the first half, but fell to Davidson, 2-1, with the Highlanders netting the gamewinner in the 85th minute at Alumni Stadium in Davidson, N.C.  The Wildcats outshot the Highlanders, 14-5, including a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal. 
 
Radford freshman forward Yoshiya Okawa scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the fourth minute of the match.
 
The Highlanders have had nine players score at least one goal through seven matches this season.
 
Okawa leads the team in goals (4), points (8), shots (14) and shots on goal (9).  Senior forward Dorion Dixon is second on the club in goals (3), points (6) and shots (11).  Senior midfielder Patrick Siczek is third on the team in goals (2) and tied for third in points (4).

Junior goalkeeper Joseba Incera (1-4-0, 2.80 GAA, 29 SV, 450 MIN) has started five matches, while Trevor Kallendorf (1-1-0, 1.50 GAA, 5 SV, 180 MIN) has started two games for the Highlanders.
 
CORNER KICK
 
Mason and Radford have met six times, with all six matches played in Fairfax.  The Patriots have never played a game in Radford, Va.
 
The Patriots and Highlanders common opponents in the early 1980's, with the two schools facing each other five straight years from 1981 through 1985.
 
Mason won all five of those games by shutout by a combined 17-0 (1-0, Sept. 25, 1981 / 3-0, Sept. 24, 1982 / 6-0, Sept. 23, 1983 / 3-0, Sept. 21, 1984 / 4-0, Sept. 20, 1985).
