RICHMOND, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team fell behind early and couldn't catch up in an 86-48 loss to hot-shooting Richmond on Tuesday night inside the Robins Center.

Daijah Jefferson led Mason with 13 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Redshirt freshman
Rachel Balzer scored 11 points, making three three-pointers in her second consecutive start.

Teodora Popovic also scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds. The trio accounted for 32 of Mason's 48 points.
The Spiders shot 50.0 percent from the field in the first half (17-34) and finished with a season-high in points. Richmond jumped out to a 21-8 lead after ending the first quarter on a 15-2 run.
The Patriots pulled within 13 twice in the second quarter but wouldn't get any closer. Richmond maintained its lead for the remainder of the game, cruising to an 86-48 victory.
The Patriots committed a season-high 26 turnovers, resulting in 28 points for Richmond. Mason entered the game averaging 16 turnovers a game in A-10 play.
Mason made seven three-pointers (.292) and shot 29.3 percent from the floor overall (.293). Richmond finished with a mark of 47.9 percent from the field (34-71) and made 10 3-pointers (.345).
Mason will look to bounce back against VCU at 6 p.m. on Friday night inside EagleBank Arena.
