Fourth Quarter Run Propels La Salle Past Mason

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – A late fourth quarter run propelled La Salle past the George Mason women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon inside Tom Gola Arena.

Mason took its largest lead of the game with less than seven minutes remaining (49-38). But, La Salle finished the game on an 18-0 run to complete the comeback, 56-49.

The Patriots failed to score for the final 6:51 minutes while the Explorers scored 11 points off Mason's seven fourth quarter turnovers.

Mason won the rebounding battle 57-33 (+24) and grabbed 25 offensive rebounds, which it turned into 15 second-chance points. The Patriots, however, struggled with turnovers again, committing a season-high 22 miscues. La Salle scored 17 points off turnovers.

Sophomore Jazmyn Doster (13), junior Devyn Wilson (10) and sophomore Jordan Wakefield (9) all registered career highs in rebounds. Doster also notched a career-high nine offensive boards.

Offensively, freshman Teodora Popovic scored a team-high 11 points in just her second-ever collegiate game. She earned her first career start and added two assists and two rebounds.

Redshirt freshman Rachel Balzer made her first career start and scored nine points on 3-of-9 shooting from behind-the-arc.

In total, eight different Patriots scored a point in the total team effort. Mason shot 26.2 percent from the floor (16-61) and made four three-pointers (.167).

La Salle finished with a mark of 30.6 percent from the field (19-62) and made 12 three-pointers (.293), including nine treys in the second half.

Mason held La Salle to its lowest point total in the first quarter (6). As both teams struggled offensively, the Patriots held a slim 10-6 lead after the opening period of play.

The Patriots took their largest lead of the first half with 1:26 to go in the second quarter (23-16). Mason led at the break for the first time in A-10 play this season (23-19).

Mason scored 19 points in the third quarter to lead by seven with one period to go (42-35). The Patriots went 10-for-11 from the charity stripe in the frame (.909).

The Patriots then took their largest lead of the game with 6:51 on the clock (49-38) but would not score again for the remainder of the quarter. La Salle went on an 18-0 run to complete the comeback victory, 56-49.
