Patriots Return to Action Sunday at La Salle

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team returns to action Sunday against La Salle. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside Tom Gola Arena.
 
Sunday's game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+.

PATRIOT POINTS
* The Patriots (3-9, 0-5 A-10) will look to snap a five-game losing streak on Sunday and secure their first conference win. 
 
* The Patriots had three games postponed this week: Richmond (Jan. 20), Saint Joseph's (Jan. 22) and Duquesne (Jan. 22). Mason will look for its first road win of the season.
 
* Mason fell to Revolutionary Rival George Washington 67-47 on Sunday inside EagleBank Arena. GW outscored Mason 19-6 in the third period and scored 21 points off Mason's 20 turnovers to cruise to victory.
 
* Senior Marika Korpinen finished with a team-high 13 points in the loss, going 3-of-6 from three-point range. She was the lone Patriot in double figures. 
 
* Mason is 0-5 when one player finishes in double figures. Conversely, they are 3-1 when three or more players finish in double figures.
 
* Freshman Teodora Popovic made her Green & Gold debut in Sunday's contest, playing eight minutes and scoring the first points of her career in the fourth quarter.
 
* Sophomore Jazmyn Doster scored eight points on 4-of-5 shooting vs. GW. She ranks second on the team in rpg with 6.4 and adds 7.4 ppg.
 
* Sophomore Jordan Wakefield tied her career-high eight rebounds vs. GW. It marked the fourth different Patriot to lead the team in rebounding this season.
 
* Korpinen has scored in double figures nine times in 2020-21 and 26 times in her career. In the A-10, Korpinen ranks 14th in scoring (11.8), 25th in rebounding (5.6) and 14th in FT percentage (.755).
 
* Daijah Jefferson has registered four double-digit rebounding performances this season and is averaging 8.3 points and a team-high 7.4 rebounds per game. 
 
* Mason is outscoring its opponents 219-175 in the fourth quarter (+44) while shooting 36.6 percent from the floor (67-183). Mason has outscored 10 of its 12 opponents in the fourth quarter this season.
 
* Mason ranks third in the Atlantic 10 in three-point field goal defense, holding opponents to a mark of 28.6 percent from behind-the-arc.
 
* Mason shot 72.8 percent from the charity stripe during non-conference play. But, in A-10 play, the Patriots are just 64.2 percent from the free throw line which ranks 11th in the league.

* Senior Marika Korpinen is 21st in program history in three-point field goals made with 77. She is one three-pointer away from tying Brittany Eley (2007-11).

* Six different Patriots have led the team in scoring this season - Korpinen (6), Jefferson (3), Wilson, Wakefield, Doster and Balzer. The Patriots have five players averaging at least 5.0 points per game.
 
SERIES HISTORY
La Salle has a slight 8-5 edge in the all-time series. The Explorers have won the last three meetings, including a season sweep of the Patriots in 2019-20. Mason is 2-5 inside Tom Gola Arena, and will look for its first road win over La Salle since Jan. 3, 2018. 
 
SCOUTING LA SALLE
La Salle is 2-4 to begin Atlantic 10 play and will face George Washington on Friday night before Sunday's contest against Mason.
 
The Explorers are led by Preseason All-Conference Second Teamer Claire Jacobs who averages a team-high 15.2 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game. Junior Kayla Spruill adds 11.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest while junior Molly Masciantonio averages 8.2 ppg. 
 
La Salle leads the conference in assists, steals, three-point field goals attempted, and three-point field goals made. The Explorers are averaging 64.4 points per game and allowing 67.3.
