FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team opens the 2021 spring campaign this weekend with a pair of away matches. The Patriots will play Old Dominion at 2 p.m. on Friday, followed by Norfolk State at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Friday's match marks the first-ever meeting with Old Dominion, which will play its inaugural season in 2021. The Monarchs are coached by Fred Chao who previously served as the head men's volleyball coach at Mason from 1999-2015. The contest will be streamed for free on ODUSports.com.
Mason's opening weekend of action concludes with a 5:30 p.m. match against Norfolk State on Sunday. The two teams will be meeting for only the second time in program history with Mason winning the previous matchup, 3-0, on Sept. 1, 2018.
PATRIOT POINTS
- Mason returns 11 letterwinners and five players that started at least 10 matches in 2019.
- The Patriots' squad consists of six upperclassmen and nine underclassmen.
- Mason welcomes four newcomers to the 2020-21 roster. That group includes outside Katelyn Clarke (Fairfax, Va.), setter Grace Kristofic (Gibsonia, Pa.), middle blocker Brianna Jackson (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.) and opposite Taylor Terry (Cape Charles, Va.).
- Junior middle blocker Peyton Ehmke is back for the Patriots after leading the team in blocks (93) and blocks per set (.99).
- Junior setter Erin Derick registered a team-high 7.49 assists per set last season – good for sixth in the Atlantic 10.
- Juniors Siron Hardy, Katie Parmalee and Marlanna Bozicevich are also back for the Green & Gold. Hardy ranked third on the team in kills per set (2.60) while Parmalee added 1.13 kills and 0.42 blocks per set in 2019. Bozicevich has appeared in 45 career matches and will lead Mason's backline.
- Mason ranked fifth in the Atlantic 10 in blocks per set (2.10) and sixth in total blocks (204.0) in 2019.
- The 2020-21 schedule features seven non-conference games and a condensed A-10 slate.
- The Patriots will play a 10-match A-10 schedule beginning on Saturday, Feb. 6. Mason will play five home and five road contests during the regular season, scheduled to conclude on Friday, March 26.

The RAC Gym will have a capacity of 30 spectators, limited to student-athlete and staff guests as well as Mason students. Tickets will not be available to the public. Mason's home opener is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 30 against Coppin State. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. inside the RAC.
