FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's swimming and diving team collected two major awards and four overall selections on the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Men's Swimming & Diving All-State Team.
Senior diver
Gerald Hodges, Jr. was selected Men's Co-Diver of the Year, freshman swimmer
Luke DeVore was named Men's Rookie Swimmer of the Year and graduate student swimmer
Jake Ball was selected Men's All-State Second Team.
Hodges, a native of Springfield, Va., made the podium in each diving event at the Atlantic 10 Championships to help the Men's Swimming and Diving Team capture its first championship in program history.
The A-10 Championships were held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio Feb. 19-22.
Hodges won the silver medal in the one-meter diving event with a finals score of 292.05 and won the bronze medal in the three-meter diving event with a finals score of 311.65.
The Patriots' top diver this season, Hodges was selected Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week for the week ending Feb. 9. He led all Mason divers during the 2019-2020 campaign with 13 podium finishes, including five first-place and six second-place finishes during the season.
DeVore, from Haymarket, Va., swept the butterfly events and won three individual medals overall at the Atlantic 10 Championships.
DeVore claimed the A-10 Championship in the 200-yard butterfly, setting an Atlantic 10 Conference and meet record with a time of 1:45.83. He also won the 100-yard butterfly, winning the gold with a time of 47.82. DeVore also took the bronze medal in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:47.57.
DeVore finished his rookie season with 11 top-three finishes and led the team with 111.00 points. His six first-place finishes in 2019-2020 were second-most on the team.
Ball, from Stafford, Va., was selected Second-Team All-State in the breaststroke.
Ball won the bronze in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.33 and placed fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:58.57 at the A-10 Championships. He finished the 2019-2020 season with seven top-three finishes and was fifth on the team in points with 63.00.
