Several Patriots Continue Quest for NCAA Qualifiers at MAC Championships

Masons' first day of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship is in the books. The Patriots had two wrestlers compete in semifinal matches and four remain in competition heading into the final day tomorrow at Northern Illinois University.

At 149 pounds, Colston DiBlasi won by technical fall over Bloomsburg's Shawn Orem, 19-2 (3:31) in a first-round match-up. In the quarterfinals, DiBlasi won by a 5-2 decision against McCoy Kent of Illinois. Brock Zacheri, the 2-seed, defeated DiBlaisi in sudden victory, 6-4, in the semifinals.

In the semifinals at 165 pounds, Buffalo's Troy Keller won by decision over Neil Schuster, 7-0. Schuster drew a bye in the first round. The sophomore won by fall over Bloomsburg's Nate Newberry (2:58) in the quarterfinals.

DiBlasi will wrestle the winner of the match between Alec Hagan (Ohio) and Brock Port (LHU) in the consolation bracket en-route to the third-place match. Schuster will await the winner of the match between Derek Clavarro (Edinboro) and Joseph Terry (Ohio) for his opening match on Sunday.

The Patriots Alex Madrigal earned his 13^th technical fall of the season in a first-round win against Shawn Orem from Bloomsburg. Madrigal lost a tough match in the quarterfinals as Cleveland State's Evan Cheek earned a win by sudden victory, 3-1. He will wrestle Northern Illinois' Anthony Gibson tomorrow in the consolation bracket.

After dropping his first match to Bloomsburg's Josh Mason, Mason's Josh Jones (133) battled back with two straight wins in the consolation bracket. The freshman defeated Shannon Hanna (ODU) by a 10-3 decision and earned a technical fall over Richie Koehler (Rider), 16-1 (2:51).

Jones will wrestle Central Michigan's Andrew Marlen on Sunday.
