FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University men's basketball incoming freshman Tyler Kolek has been named the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class B Player of the Year.

For Kolek, who starred for head coach Dwayne Pina at St. George's School in Newport, R.I., the honor caps an outstanding 2019-20 campaign in which the guard cemented himself as one of the top players in New England.

Kolek led St. George's to an impressive 23-4 record, the 2020 Independent School League (ISL) title and a berth in the NEPSAC Class B semifinals. In that semifinal contest, Kolek poured in 39 points to lead the Dragons.

The Cumberland, R.I., product also earned ISL Player of the Year accolades for the second-straight season. He is a two-time All-ISL selection.

Last season, in addition to his ISL recognition, Kolek was named the 2019 Gatorade Player of the Year in Rhode Island, joining recent winners Cole Swider (Villanova), Bonzie Colson (Notre Dame) and Michael Carter-Williams (Syracuse) as recipients of the elite award.

As a member of famed AAU program Middlesex Magic, Kolek led the team to a Hoop Group Showcase League Championship in 2019.

New England Recruiting Report lists Kolek as the No. 2 ranked player in the state of Rhode Island and puts him at No. 14 overall in the New England region. The New England top-15 includes commits to Kentucky, Syracuse, Indiana, Maryland and Pittsburgh, among others.

Kolek is part of a George Mason incoming class which includes Malik Henry (Longview, Texas/Longview) and Ronald Polite (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill).
