FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team travels to Saint Louis for the first round of the Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championships on Tuesday.
Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET inside Chaifetz Arena. Tuesday's game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+. In addition, Shawn Ouellette will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with pre-game coverage beginning at 7:50 p.m. ET.
PATRIOT POINTS
* The Patriots earned the No. 13 seed in the A-10 Tournament after finishing conference play with a mark of 3-13. The Billikens (9-7) earned the No. 4 seed after winning the head-to-head tiebreaker against UMass (9-7) and Duquesne (9-7).
* Mason concluded the regular season with a 64-59 loss to La Salle on Senior Day (Feb. 29). After trailing by as many as nine in the fourth quarter, the Patriots pulled to within one with a minute remaining (60-59), before falling to the Explorers.
* Junior
Marika Korpinen scored a team-high 14 points in the contest. It marked her ninth double-digit scoring performance this season, and seventh in A-10 play.
* Mason will be playing in the Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championships for the seventh time. The Patriots are 3-6 all-time, having reached the quarterfinals two of the last four seasons. With a win on Tuesday, Mason would advance to the quarterfinals for the third time in program history.
* Six of Mason's conference games have been decided by five points. The Patriots are 1-5 in those games, and 2-6 overall in games decided by five points or less.
* Junior Nicole Cardaño-Hillary is second in the Atlantic 10 in scoring (17.9 ppg) and first in steals per game (2.3).
* Senior
Jacy Bolton is ninth in the A-10 with 6.3 rebounds per game, and second on the team in points per game (8.8).
* The Patriots continue to be efficient on the offensive glass, ranking first in the A-10 in offensive rebounds per game (14.6). In A-10 games only, the Patriots are first in offensive rebounds per game (13.9) and are +47 in total offensive rebounds (223-176).
* Cardaño-Hillary moved into second on Mason's all-time scoring list with 1,737 career points, passing Taylor Brown (2013-16). She is now 10 points shy of a first-place tie with Keri Chaconas (1992-96) with 1,747 points.
* Cardaño-Hillary is the only player in program history to rank in the top-5 all-time in scoring (1,737), 3-pt field goals made (154) and steals (215).
* Bolton moved into seventh on Mason's all-time rebounding list with 733 boards, passing Jerolyn Weathersby (1987-91) with 727. She's one rebound shy of a sixth-place tie with Moni Akintunde (2004-08).
SERIES HISTORY
The Billikens hold a 6-3 advantage in the all-time series. Saint Louis has won the last two match-ups, 64-51 in Fairfax, Va. (Feb. 9, 2020) and 60-53 in St. Louis (Jan. 31, 2019). The Patriots are 1-3 vs. the Billikens at Chaifetz Arena. This marks the first time the two teams will meet in the A-10 Tournament.
SCOUTING SAINT LOUIS
Saint Louis suffered a 78-66 loss to Dayton in its regular season finale on Saturday night. The Billikens finished A-10 play with a mark of 9-7 - good for the No. 4 seed in the A-10 Tournament. The Billikens won the head-to-head tiebreaker against UMass (9-7) and Duquesne (9-7).
Saint Louis has three players averaging 10+ points per game: Ciaja Harbison (15.6), Kendra Wilken (11.3) and Rachel Kent (10.8).
Earlier this season, Saint Louis defeated Mason 64-51 on Feb. 9 in Fairfax. The Billikens were led by Wilken and Harbison, who finished with 25 and 21 points, respectively. SLU shot 54.2 percent from the field, compared to Mason's mark of 33.3 percent.
ATLANTIC 10 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship begins March 3, with first round games at campus sites. The Dayton Flyers will host the quarterfinals, semifinals and the championship, Friday through Sunday, March 6-8.
