Fairfax, Va. –The Patriots open up the 2019-20 spring campaign with the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate at Ft. Lauderdale Country Club, March 2-3. The Patriots will play two rounds on Monday and the final round on Tuesday in the 54-hole tournament.
The tournament marks Head Coach
Greg Pieczynski first career tournament leading the Patriots. Pieczynski was hired January 30 from Atlantic 10 rival George Washington where he was an assistant coach for the Colonials golf program.
In his first tournament as a Patriot, sophomore
Milan Matneja will play from the No. 1 position. Matneja transferred to George Mason from Hamilton College.
Two-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week
Hayden Miller, will fill the No. 2 position for the Patriots. In four tournaments this fall, Miller finished with a team-best 71.42 strokes average. The freshman's best finish was fourth place at the Elon Phoenix Invitational.
J.P. Miller will play at the No. 3 position. The sophomore played in all four fall tournaments and finished second in scoring, with a 72.42 strokes average.
Senior
Takahiro Nojima (73.50 strokes average) will compete at No. 4, and
Davis Soderberg (74.50 stroke average) at No. 5.
Mason is one of 14 teams competing in the tournament hosted by Loyola (MD), along with Davidson, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Lynn, Mercer, South Florida, St. John's, Towson, UConn, Utah Valley, Villanova, and Western Carolina.
