Mason Takes on Duquesne Saturday in Moon Township

FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason University men's basketball team will play its penultimate road game of the 2019-20 season Saturday when the Patriots travel to the campus of Robert Morris University to take on Duquesne.

Tip-off in Moon Township, Pa., between the Patriots and Dukes is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+. In addition, Bill Rohland will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with streaming coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.

PATRIOT POINTS
• Mason is coming off a near upset of No. 4/3 Dayton on Tuesday night in Fairfax. The Patriots trailed the Flyers by just two points (57-55) with 1:18 to play, but UD scored the final five points of the contest to escape with the win.

• The Patriots held the Flyers to season lows in points (62), 3pt FG made (3) and 3pt percentage (.188) Tuesday. UD entered the game 9th in the nation in scoring offense (80.6 ppg) and 33rd in 3pt FG% (.369).

• Mason also gave up just five offensive rebounds and one second chance point to the Flyers.

AJ Wilson led Mason with 18 points (7-14) vs. Dayton. He's averaged 18.5 points and shot 50 percent (13-26) in Mason's two games against AP top-10 opponents this season.

Jordan Miller added his first double-double of the season (13 pts, game-high 10 reb) and fourth of his career. He's averaging 8.3 rebounds over the past three games and has scored at least 10 points in eight-straight contests.

•  After averaging 17.8 turnovers/game over the five contests prior to Tuesday, Mason committed just 11 turnovers vs. Dayton, including only four in the second half.

• Mason has outrebounded its opponent in 10 of 15 A-10 games. The Patriots are fourth in the league in rebounding margin (+2.6) and second in blocks per game (4.6).

• After struggling to defend the 3 early in conference play (.387 thru nine games), Mason has held its opponent to less than 31 percent in five of the past six games. Opponents have shot a combined 25.4 percent (29-114) from beyond the arc during that stretch.

• Mason's defense has improved significantly over the past three games. The Patriots have limited Dayton (-18 ppg), Saint Joseph's (-14 ppg) and Richmond (-10 ppg) well under their season scoring averages and have held the three teams to a combined 22.6 percent mark (14-62) from 3. Dayton and Richmond are two of the top-3 3-point shooting teams in the conference.

• The Patriots have shot less than 24 percent from 3-point range in three of the past four games. Mason is shooting 29.3 percent (84-287) from beyond the arc in A-10 play.

HISTORY vs. DUQUESNE
Saturday's matchup marks the 14th all-time meeting between Mason and Duquesne. The Dukes lead the series 7-6 and have won five of the seven Atlantic 10 matchups. The last three meetings between the teams have come down to the wire, with two of the games being decided by two total points and the other going to double overtime. Last season, Mason fell to the Dukes, 79-78, on Feb. 23 in Fairfax. Javon Greene tallied 18 points (7-11 FG), six rebounds, three assists and two steals in the contest. Jordan Miller added 11 rebounds and nine points.

A LOOK AT THE DUKES (19-8, 9-6 A-10; NET No.  92, KenPom No. 92)
Duquesne was picked to finish eighth in the 2019-20 A-10 preseason poll and currently sits tied for fifth. The Dukes are in the KenPom top-100 in both offensive and defensive efficiency and lead the A-10 with 5.6 blocks per game. Duquesne ranks 27th nationally in 2-point field goal percentage (.538). Marcus Weathers leads the Dukes in scoring (14.3 ppg), rebounding (7.8 rpg) and field goal percentage (.570, 29th nationally)), while guard Sincere Carry adds 12.2 points and is fifth in the A-10 with 5.3 assists per contest. Michael Hughes adds 10.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and is eighth nationally with 2.9 blocks per game.

Mason returns to Fairfax for its final home game of 2019-20. The Patriots will battle Saint Louis on Wednesday (March 4). The Senior Night game will begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
