GENEVA, Ohio – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the second day of competition at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Thursday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
The Mason men's team moved into first place with 262 points, while the Mason women's team is in eighth place with 79 points.
On the men's side, Mason has the lead with George Washington in second with 220.5 points and St. Bonaventure third with 201.5 points. La Salle is in fourth place (169.5), followed by Davidson (153.5), Massachusetts (134.5), Saint Louis (94) and Fordham (92.5).
Mason freshman
Will Rastatter out-swam the field to become the A-10 Champion in the men's 50-yard freestyle, winning the gold with a time of 20.33. Sophomore
Nick Ashton just missed a spot on the podium with a fourth-place finish (20.45) and freshman
Josh Fletcher placed fifth (20.59).Â
In the consolation final of the event, Mason senior
Christopher Stankiewicz finished sixth (20.90).
Mason senior
Attila Kiss won the bronze in the 500-yard freestyle (4:26.01). Kiss made the podium with the third-place finish for the second straight year at the A-10 Championships. Senior
Logan Eubanks placed 15th in the event (4:33.91).
In the 200-yard IM, Mason freshman
Luke DeVore claimed the bronze medal (1:47.57), while senior
Ryan Donnelly placed fifth (1:48.29).
The Patriots went one-two in the consolation final of the 200-yard IM, with junior
Dylan Peck first (1:48.99) and classmate
Drake Moretz right behind in second (1:49.50).
Senior
Gerald Hodges, Jr. won the silver medal in the one-meter diving event. After a preliminary score of 297.90, he posted a finals score of 292.05.
Senior
Joe Amato placed sixth in the one-meter event. He recorded a score of 259.10 in the preliminaries and posted a finals score of 272.15.
The combination of freshman
Josh Fletcher, Ashton, Donnelly and Rastatter took the top spot on the podium in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:19.66).
On the women's side, George Washington is in first place (251), with Duquesne second (199) and Fordham third (194). Davidson is in fourth place (172), followed by Richmond (156), Massachusetts (117), St. Bonaventure (98), Mason (79), La Salle (67), Saint Louis (62) and Rhode Island (41).
Mason sophomore
Jacquee Clabeaux swam to a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:00.46).
In the consolation final of the 500-yard freestyle, sophomore
Megan Cummins placed fourth (4:57.64) and classmate
Laura Hodge was fifth (4:57.71).
The Atlantic 10 Championships continue on Friday with preliminary events schedules for 10 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m. at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
