RICHMOND, Va. - The George Mason University men's basketball is back on the road for a Wednesday night contest at the University of Richmond.
Tip-off between the Patriots and Spiders is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday's game will be televised locally on NBC Sports Washington+ and also streamed on ESPN+. In addition, Bill Rohland will call the game on the GoMason Digital Network, with streaming coverage set to begin at 6:45 p.m.
PATRIOT POINTS
• The Patriots are coming off a 73-67 setback to George Washington on Saturday inside EagleBank Arena. The Colonials shot a sizzling 60 percent (16-25) in the second half en route to the win. Mason shot a solid 48.3 percent (28-58) overall, but made just 4-of-18 3-point attempts (.222) and committed 15 turnovers in the contest.
• Two freshmen made major contributions for the Patriots in the game.
Xavier Johnson recorded a career-best 17 points (6-10 FG), while
Josh Oduro notched his first ever double-double with career hights in points (13), rebounds (11) and minutes (28).
• Johnson is averaging 14 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and shooting 52.9 percent over the past two games, while Oduro is at 9.3 points and 9.0 rebounds over the past three affairs.
• Mason's most consistent scorer, junior
Javon Greene, was held to seven points vs. GW, marking the first time this season he's been under 10 points in back-to-back games. He's posted 10+ points in 19 of 25 games this season.
• After being out-rebounded in the first three A-10 games (-13.6 average margin), the Patriots have held the rebounding edge in eight of the past nine games (+6.0 average margin). Mason was +8 (34-26) on the glass against the Colonials.
• Mason is 2-7 since senior star
Justin Kier re-injured his foot (fracture) on Jan. 14.
• Redshirt-junior forward
AJ Wilson scored 15 points (6-11 FG, 2-3 3pt FG) and grabbed seven rebounds vs. GW despite being hampered by a sprained ankle for much of the second half.
• Mason is averaging 13.5 offensive rebounds over the past two games while giving up just 7.0 offensive boards/contest.

Javon Greene leads Mason and ranks 39th nationally with 2.0 steals/contest. With 50 steals on the year, he needs just five more to move into the top-10 in Mason single season annals.
• The Patriots have averaged 18.3 turnovers/game over the past three contests after taking care of the ball well for much of the season. Mason has also struggled from the charity stripe in recent games. The Patriots have shot 62.4 percent (68-109) from the line over the past five contests.
HISTORY vs. RICHMOND
Wednesday's game marks the 64th all-time meeting between George Mason and Richmond in men's basketball (Mason trails 25-38). The Patriots are 15-12 vs. the Spiders in Fairfax and 8-19 in games played in Richmond (2-7 on neutral courts). Mason has won 12 of the past 17 meetings, including seven of the past 10, dating back to the old CAA years. Mason is 6-3 vs. Richmond under head coach
Dave Paulsen, although the Spiders have captured three of the past four meetings.
UR won the first meeting this season, a high-scoring 97-87 affair on Jan. 18 in Fairfax. Junior guard
Javon Greene set a new EagleBank Arena scoring record in the setback, exploding for 39 points (15-22 FG). Greene hit five 3-pointers and also chipped in five steals and four assists.
AJ Wilson added 19 points (7-11 FG) and eight rebounds. Despite Greene's performance, the Spiders ultimately prevailed with an outstanding shooting night in which the team made 67.3 percent (33-49) of its attempts. The Spiders hung on for the win, although Mason was within four on several occasions in the second half.
A LOOK AT THE SPIDERS (19-6, 9-3 A-10; NET No. 44, KenPom No. 51)
Richmond was picked to finish sixth out of 14 teams in the A-10 Preseason Poll. The Spiders earned non-conference wins over Wisconsin, Vanderbilt and Boston College. Richmond is 9-3 to start A-10 play, including wins against Rhode Island, VCU and Davidson. Per usual, the Spiders feature one of the nation's most efficient offenses (1.08 points/possession, 58th). But this season, Richmond also trots out a top-100 defense (0.95 points/possession, 66th). The Spiders are 27th nationally in effective field goal percentage (.537). Wagner transfer Blake Francis leads the Spiders and is fourth in the A-10 with 17.2 points/game and shoots 37.6 percent from 3-point range. In addition to Francis, Jacob Gilyard averages 13.7 points, is fourth in the A-10 and 34th nationally with 5.6 assists/contest and leads the country with 3.2 steals/game. Reigning A-10 Player of the Week Grant Golden averages 13.1 points, 7.0 rebounds and shoots 52.2 percent from the floor, while Nick Sherod is at 12.8 points and 5.4 rebounds/game.

Mason returns to Fairfax for a two-game homestand, beginning with a Homecoming Weekend contest against Saint Joseph's. Tip-off between the Patriots and Hawks is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 22). The contest will be televised nationally on NBC Sports Network.
