Fairfax, Va.— The Patriots will celebrate Senior Day with duals against Old Dominion and Bloomsburg, Sunday, Feb. 9 at Noon in the Recreation Athletic Complex.
Between the two matches, Mason will honor its five seniors; graduate student
Anthony Lombardo and seniors
Colston DiBlasi, Phil Stolfi and Justin and
Ryan Yorkdale.
Set to battle two MAC opponents on Sunday, Mason (7-7, 2-4) will look to get a conference win after four straight MAC setbacks. Old Dominion (7-9, 4-2) to face Navy tonight before heading to Fairfax. The Monarchs won their last dual this past Monday against Drexel, a 25-11 victory over the Dragons. Bloomsburg dropped its last match against Sacred Heart, 18-17.
The matches will be broadcast nationally on ESPN+.
MAT FACTS
- The only projected ranked showdown on the mat Sunday could be between the Patriots No. 28 Alex Madrigal and No. 18 Sa'Derian Perry at 141 pounds on Sunday. Madrigal, a former Monarch, has 23 wins on the season.
- The Monarchs are 13-9 all-time in the series and have won the last 10 meetings. The last time the Patriots took on the Monarchs was in the 2012-2013 regular season finale when ODU came away with a 25-6 victory.
- The Patriots earned a 24-11 victory over Bloomsburg in last season's match at the Nelson Field House in Bloomsburg, Pa.
- Redshirt-senior Colston DiBlasi (24-8) achieved what only six other wrestlers in Mason history accomplished with his 100th career win against Lock Haven's Brock Port (Jan. 18). The Patriots have seven 100-win wrestlers in program history, led by Paul Maltagiati with 122. The other five are Scott Kirsch (119); Johnny Curtis and Chuck Toler (113); Rob Becker (109), and Adrian Austin (103), Colston DiBlasi (102).
- Kolby Ho (20-9, 10-2), has 20+ wins for the second straight season. He finished his freshman campaign with a 22-11 record, including a 10-4 dual mark.
National Rankings/Awards
- The Patriots Alex Madrigal (141) is #26 in the TrackWrestling individual national rankings this week. DiBlasi (149) remained at #25.
- The NCAA updated (Jan. 22) standings for the 2020 NCAA Wrestling Awards that will be awarded in March. Colston DiBlasi stands in fourth place with nine falls at 149 pounds. Cornell's Ben Darmstadt leads with 11 this season.
- Redshirt-senior Alex Madrigal holds a commanding lead in the NCAA Wrestling Awards race for the most tech falls in Division I with 11.
Honorary Coach
Mason Wrestling is proud to host Joshua Wright as honorary coach. A Professor of Law at the GMU's Antonin Scalia Law School, Wright was Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission from January 2013 to August 2015.
