Fairfax, Va. -- George Mason Athletics will celebrate the 15th anniversary of men's basketball's Cinderella run to the 2006 Final Four with a season-long social media campaign recapping some of the key moments that established the Patriots a place in history with one of the NCAA Tournament's greatest stories.
The Green & Gold shocked the world in March of 2006. The 11-seeded Patriots earned an at-large berth into the Big Dance, before rattling off four improbable victories to reach the NCAA Final Four. Mason defeated blue bloods Michigan State and North Carolina, before claiming victory over Wichita State in the Sweet 16 in Washington, D.C. Then, Mason pulled off arguably the biggest upset in Elite Eight history, knocking off No. 1 seed UConn Huskies to reach the national semifinals.
The voice-of-the Patriots Bill Rohland will host a weekly video series titled Final Four Rewind presented by Jim McKay Chevrolet, which will feature interviews with several players and coaches telling their favorite stories and reliving some key moments. We'll also catch up with some of the guys and see what they are doing now.
We also want to hear from our Patriot fans! If you have questions for any of the coaches or players, send them to Masonfinalfour@gmail.com. Or better yet, send us your memories of the Final Four in video form and you may see yourself in our fan episode!
The first episode in the 11-episode series drops December 30
th with a look at the first-round game against Michigan State.
