FAIRFAX, Va. - Sophomore forward
Josh Oduro poured in a career-best 19 points to lead the George Mason men's basketball team to a 70-65 triumph over Towson Wednesday afternoon inside EagleBank Arena.
Towson's only lead came at the 18:49 mark of the first half, as Mason remained in control for much of the contest. The Patriots led by 10 (62-52) with 4:20 to play, but another tough night at the line (11-24, .458) allowed the Tigers to keep the game close.
The win marked Mason's third-straight, with one non-conference game remaining before A-10 play.
Oduro's 19 points came on 8-of-14 shooting. He added eight rebounds in 28 minutes while providing a boost on a night where
AJ Wilson struggled from the floor (2-14).
Despite those shooting woes, Wilson grabbed six rebounds, dished out two assists and made two blocks. With his first swat, he moved into second place alone on the all time Mason blocks list. He now has 176 for his career.
Junior
Jamal Hartwell II provided a spark off the bench for the Green & Gold, tallying 12 points while knocking down 3-of-4 3-point attempts. He is shooting 71.4 percent from deep over the past two games. Hartwell II hit a number of key shots in the second half to boost the Patriot offense when Towson was attempting to get within a possession of the lead.
Elsewhere, senior
Javon Greene added 13 points and two assists, while fellow senior
Greg Calixte notched seven points (3-5 FG) and seven rebounds in 19 minutes on the floor.
Mason shot just 38.5 percent from the floor, but limited Towson to 28.6 percent from beyond the arc while forcing 14 Tiger turnovers. Mason held a +6 (30-24) edge in points in the paint for the game.
The Patriots wrap up non-conference play on Saturday at 4 p.m. with a home contest vs. Norfolk State.
